Where? In Memphis, businesses closed down? |
The release of video—good or bad? I don’t know. I wonder if the conspiracy minded get off on the violence? |
They will be |
A million? No. What we know is 1/100 use force and that’s too much. |
Anyone who saw the Paul Pelosi video, also yesterday, saw the problem of less than sufficient force. Stop talking in absolutes and maybe we can have a productive conversation. |
I’m not so sure about insufficiency, but their timing sure was lousy, as in a day late and a dollar short. |
What percentage of apprehended people are potentially violent or acting aggressive or may flee, ie out of control? |
Like people having a diabetic attack? |
| We are only seeing the most egregious police brutality attacks picked up by the news. all the incidents of a kick or a punch, swipe with a baton or hitting your head when they put you in the car whether on video or not don’t make the national news. It’s ignorant to think that these incident are isolated to the few picked up in national news. |

and a little extra kick to the ribs of someone who resists and fights the police isn't the same thing as a beat down like you saw last night. I have a feeling nobody on this board has ever lived in the hood back in the day or had any parents/grandparents who were cops. You don't know how good you've got it. You ran from the cops back then and you were pretty much guaranteed to get your ass kicked. |

We need police reform. Brookings made the following bipartisan recommendations based on research from both sides of the aisle (in 2021):
Short-Term Reforms Reform Qualified Immunity Create National Standards for Training and De-escalation Medium-Term Reforms Restructure Civilian Payouts for Police Misconduct Address Officer Wellness Long-Term Reforms Restructure Regulations for Fraternal Order of Police Contracts Change Police Culture to Protect Civilians and Police We know what needs to be done…we just need to do it. |
In 1979 some police in Maryland decided to administer just such an ask kicking to a 15 year old after they took him in for suspicion of larceny. The event ended with two dead police, shot with one of their own guns. The time for the fabled street Justice “ass kicking” by the police is long past. |
These sound very sensible. Good to know there was bipartisan agreement on these measures. I hope the political will to make these reforms happen. |
