Engagement and wedding rings

Where is the recommended and reputable jeweler for these things?
Not looking for mall jewelry stores.
Interested in custom design, loose stones, and in house jeweler.

Just don't want to be ripped off for paying more simply based on location e.g., Tyson's, Rockville. Bethesda

I got a really great set from Dominion Jewlers in Falls Church. Beautiful custom design, very reasonably priced. I even watched them make my husband's wedding band in front of me.

I have been super impressed with this guy - he's actually out of Arizona, but his work is awesome and who I would go with for something custom. Not affiliated with him at all. His website is kind of... garish looking, but if you read his blog and look at some of his past work, it's really impressive.

DH and I worked with Tiny Jewel Box on Connecticut Ave, amazing pieces and they have access to top quality Canadian, conflict-free stones if that's important to you!

Custom jewelry is over rated. There is a ton of designers out there, you should be able to find something that fit your needs. Whenever you ask for custom jewelry design, they all start by asking you to find something you like and show it to them. They then make small changes here and there to make it "unique". What's the point, why not just get the original design in the first place. I say this having done some custom pieces at local jewelry stores because I couldn't find the designs I liked in platinum. I am a sucker for platinum. We all have weaknesses.

I also have never bought diamonds from a local store. I strongly recommend Blue Nile or White Flash for finding and buying loose stones. I've never bought a stone from Blue Nile, but a few from White Flash. Both are good, however, as I know people who have bought good quality stones from Blue Nile at competitive prices.

Due to the market value of diamonds, they are graded and sold in such a way that you have no need to see the actual stone before making the purchase. Absolutely none. As long as you get a stone certified by AGS or GIA, you can be very certain of the quality of the diamond you will get. All of the diamonds I've purchased have been sight unseen, and they all have been stunning.

Go browse the multitude of settings available to you in a bewildering array of designs. Pick out the setting you like, then find a raw stone that will fit. You will end up with a ring that looks great and at a much lower price than what you can find locally.

Might as well go to the Mall.

Check out Dominion Jewelers in Falls Church. It's very close to the Beltway and 66. They have goldsmiths on site, and they do the work there. Great quality, and amazing prices.

That's where we got my e-ring and our wedding bands. Can't tell you what their diamond prices are like because we used CZ.
