Has anyone used this reading program? Pros and Cons? What did you like or dislike about it for your child? Thanks |
My 2nd grader used it. Stories were short and both fiction and non fiction. The reading comprehension quizes at the end were okay--not too hard, not too easy.
What I didn't like is that it was assigned homework and internet based. I have 4 kids, sometimes siblings have to go with others to activities and there is no internet. To me, reading should be an easy activity to do anywhere. The other thing I didn't like is that the book levels did not correlate to the F&P books levels in school. I think she was 2 or 3 levels higher than her F&P book. The levels don't matter to me, but they did to her. "I'm a P in Raz Kids, why is Mrs. X making me read a book from the N bin?" |
show her the level correlation chart: https://www.readinga-z.com/learninga-z-levels/level-correlation-chart/ Maybe that will help her understand the difference--explain that her school uses F&P, so they will be different. It looks like RAZ level P is actually an F&P M, so Mrs. X. is really pushing her ![]() As far as the program, I'm a tutor, and I like it. The variety of books is great. |
RazKids was alright for the kiddos. Good audios and helps with basic understanding. We had to find something more challenging for the kids and switched to Beestar which had classic stories that the kiddos really enjoyed. Also it has a grammar portion and the reading structure are more like standardized tests. |
