Ceiling and trim - same color?

Anonymous
We have always used 'ceiling white' ceiling paint and trim another white with a higher gloss.

Is this outdated? Is it more modern to have them be the same? The Benjamin Moore sales lady suggested that they be the same.

Thoughts?

If so, would love recommendations on colors. We are using Benjamin Moore colors (Cedar Key for main living area).

TIA

I've seen what you describe but personally not my thing. My walls and ceilings are the same color, trim is glossy white. But it's your house. Do what you like.

OP - We are prepping the house for the market this spring. We'd rather go with what the majority thinks looks best than what we prefer.

No dear, we don't. We do what we like.

I prefer to paint the ceiling the same color as the walls, and to have the trim stand-out with a different color. Same-color ceilings and walls pull the room together.

If the walls are any other color darker than off-white or ivory, then the ceilings should be white.

Umm, ok. Only DCUM can devolve into condescending snark with a simple request on paint trim.

Please stay off the thread.

Thanks,
OP

Thanks, OP.

Wow, OP, you're a little sensitive.

People will post here with their opinions whether you want them to or not!

If you're selling in a month, go ahead and paint with a neutral color - and then nobody will care whether the trim is a different color than the ceiling! However it will give the impression of light and space to the buyer, and not shock them with shades they might not like. It's the classic choice.

If you're planning on selling in the Spring, please don't paint right away. It won't look fresh when buyers visit.

Agree.

Unless you are a tremendously artsy and creative family, the idea of blue walls and ceilings makes my eyes hurt.

OP here. Could totally be overly sensitive, rough time with an extended sinus infection and broken sleep, just don't like people who start a post with "no dear". I need thicker skin on that or to do more yoga.

I was a bit concerned with the 'not fresh' look. We plan to put it on the market in late January as we need to close in late March. We are starting with the spare rooms (office and spare bedroom) that are not used and will do the rest over the New Years break when the kids are out of town.

Thanks for all the advice in this!!

Sorry if I caused confusion - walls are one color (cedar key, which is pale brown) and wondering if trim and ceiling need to be the same color or if they can be different (like a creamier white for window trim and brighter white on ceiling).

I'd do same color for both, with semigloss for trim and flat for the ceiling. My previous house had very high and angled ceilings so no crown, and we did wall and ceilings the same. But that doesn't work as well for standard ceiling heights IMO. You can't go wrong with white trim and ceilings.

+1. Same color, but trim should be semigloss and ceiling flat.

Agree. Ceiling white = you can't go wrong. What color(s) are you doing on the walls?

OP, you're not overly sensitive. 19:09 was being snarky and bizarre.
