I don’t think anything is a done deal, maybe for Michigan Youth Soccer. Either way both of my children will never have to deal with a trapped year, that’s cause to celebrate.

There is zero actual change set up. They just want to cling to anything that will give their kid a possible advantage because they aren't good enough for their birth year to be competitive/recruited.

The most important part of the USSF’s statement is the “flexibility” for 26/27. There were a series of errors I hope that US soccer addresses
- a USSF representative may have given either the USYS or Michigan some information on only 25/26
- Michigan decided to release what is essentially a rumor to its leagues
- the WSSL then chose to take that to social media

All of these deserve a dressing down

No, the announcement they gave matches the subsequent statement. They said no changes for 25/26. It could change for 26/27. That's all true, especially in light that locals will decide to change or not.

People were clamoring for any updates. So, they provided info they had in how they communicate with their members on social media. End of story.

So what happens next? How do teams begin to prepare for SY next fall?

Yes, now the debate can go back to whether it's worth it to play club-only OR to play HS, including whether its supported/encouraged by the elite leagues (Not really -- that's just as ugly as this)

Our ECNL/RL 2012 and 2011 teams have started practicing together over the last couple of weeks. Our winter scrimmages are set up the same way. I expect offers will be based on SY/GY come spring.

My kid is plenty good enough and already plays up year so he’s 11 playing 13 some close to being 14. This will be a windfall for him and plenty others I am sure.

What funny is reading all the bluster/excitement about having their kids play down to "destroy" the competition. Like that helps any development. Many I know actually are scrambling to stay on their current teams, because they think that's how they keep their edge and perhaps get ahead. This is needed, I guess, because soccer culture is all about playing up, and if you're not, you're probably really not going places.

As steam leaves this forum, this is the last chance we have to see 400. Some dying gasps of how amazing the BY players are. How RAE was never a factor. Its totally random that 10% of teams are Q4 players. The January kids earned their spot fair and square. The rest of us are just whining because our kids need help. Yadda Yadda.... I don't think it has legs but man its fun to watch them try. And the fact that you responded is so cute.

I'll reserve my response for the sidelines. I'm already practicing my condolences as the shock sets in that kids in the same grade are that much better. The shock of seeing RAE in real time. I just need to find the right words to go with my "im sorry" face.

Playing up has been great until this year, obviously we chose this path, buts it’s been rough lol…we will make the move soon just so he doesn’t get trapped in 8th grade but the ultimate goal is to make an MLS academy team which has nothing to do with this debate.

Haha I know it’s a pointless endeavor but I wanted to add some context

Your first sentence is also just speculation, lol.

A windfall? That makes no sense.

He can continue to play up, and will be playing even older kids if he stays up.

You must be playing rec ball in the boonies. Here in soccer land, where there's fierce competition, and every player is headed to college, its a game of inches and exposure that you have no clue about. We're all on great teams, we're all getting plenty of time. Your concerns aren't our concerns, so please stop assuming you have any idea what elite soccer is about or what this forum is about. Go back to slicing oranges for halftime and ranting under your breathe about how development is all that matters for little Suzy. You have silly local concerns and probably shouldn't even be here. Go away and let the rest of us with national and international concerns have a grown up conversation.

Actually, those 10% moving "down" are more of boon for the younger players to help them develop and improve. In a way, those 10% clawed, scratched and survived all these years to only get relegated to less competition. Sure they got screwed by the trap year BUT now there getting screwed by their own elite leagues who for their own selfish reasons want them on younger teams now. But hey, they'll score some goals!
