DOJ: IRS was inept, not political, in targeting Tea Party

I called this outcome here a couple of years ago. To wit:

It was the job of the IRS to ensure that overtly political organizations do not get tax exemption - that's written right in the tax code. The only problem was in the way they went about it, it was clumsy and disorganized. But no evidence of crime, partisanship or illegal wrongdoing. Yet another witch hunt goes up in flames.

They didn't ever deserve 501 c 4 status. So no one actually got screwed over. The Tea Party groups need to file as PACs.
