Fixing up my kitchen and had only planned to replace my fridge. A bit worried now about having a range, a dishwasher and a fridge all from different vendors with different stainless finishes. It's a small galley kitchen so at least two of these will be right next to each other. Do others worry about this?
Hate to replace the range and the dishwasher which are both still working.... |
Nope. If they're all stainless it's fine. It's better I buy appliances from the manufacturers known for making a good appliance. Not everyone makes a good quality stove and fridge. I went with all different items in a small kitchen because I care about the performance. |
I currently have two stainless appliances next to each other that don't really match and i have to admit it bothers me.... |
Stainless steel microwave, stove, dishwasher, white refrigerator, white washer and dryer. The white appliances were only 2 years old when we bought this home. I was not junking them just to match.
I figure when the white ones give out we'll just replace all at once. I have an appliance fund started for just that reason. If anyone says anything about my mismatched appliances I tell them they can buy the match for me if it bothers them. |
I've had our new SS ones a month and haven't noticed if they don't match. I'll have to go home and stare at them. |
We have appliances from different vendors and I don't notice any difference. In a galley kitchen you generally wouldn't be looking at the appliances straight on so I don't think you'd notice it as much anyway. |
None, unless they're next to each other and completely differ in style/design. |
I have a small galley kitchen with all of the appliances on the same side of the room. I went with matching because it would drive me crazy. That's me, though. Others might not be so OCD about it. |
If you are selling, I would say all your appliances should be the same finish (i.e., stainless steel), but don't have to be exact matches.
If you are just updating for you, do whatever you want! |

I agree with this strategy. The white washer and dryer aren't in the kitchen, right? I actually prefer white laundry appliances since they are easy to swap out when they die. |
We just redid our kitchen - house is worth $1.3m downtown. We did stainless built in oven, black glass induction stovetop with stainless trim (no gas) and white dishwasher -- all three of those in Bosch. Sink is stainless. Fridge stainless. Hidden microwave in cabinet. We opted for the white dishwasher because stainless dishwashers chop up the flow of kitchens. It was a $700 gamble, but we are so glad we did. It looks really sleek and new in our white kitchen. Were just at friends who also did an all-white kitchen last year in a $1m townhouse, and they had done the same thing. Note that the white finish is a modern gloss finish and not the old mottled finish of the 80s. |
I like the idea of a white dishwasher actually. I'm doing white shaker cabinets, not sure the white gloss would work with that. What kind of cabinets do you have? |
For the white dishwasher people, why not do a panel front? Especially on a $1.3M home! |
Do you just love your induction cooktop? I'm thinking of leaving my husband for ours |
