| Our daughter's NNAT was 129- that's borderline if the benchmark is 130 and above. Frankly, the testing for NNAT being online in this case was not the best given her profile. She will zip through and click anything quickly versus pen and paper. She has been getting pull outs since K for math and language arts - her thinking and abilities are very strong and above her grade level- it's somewhat surprising how her thought process works and she has really created projects on her own that are several grades ahead. What do you think? |
It costs about $380. The only real drawback is you don't have to spend that money. An individual test with one-on-one analysis from a trained psychologist has value beyond AAP in understanding her thought processes. A "zip through and click anything quickly" personality will do better on an individual test vice a group test. |
| It is $380 well spent whether she gets in AAP or not. |
| OP here- thanks- her brother is in AAP and it makes things trickier (who got perfect scores) on NNAT. We have a family history of all on our sides (DH too) over everything- from Westinghouse finalists to scholarships .. |
| why not just wait and see how she does on the cogat? i think you are overthinking things. 129 is a high score and the NNAT doesn't matter as much as the gbrs and cogat. |
| If you have the money, get the WISC, it has value beyond AAP. |
|
What do her teachers say? From your description of her, it sounds like they probably recognize how bright she is, so she will likely have a good GBRS.
It can't hurt though to have the WISC in case you need to appeal. I know a girl in our neighborhood who was in the pool but was not accepted in the first round. The family filed an appeal with the WISC results and she was placed in the program. Years later, she was a National Merit Scholarship winner and is now at a top ten college, so clearly she was a good fit for the program, even though the committee missed that on the first round. |
OMG.
|
All that family history will put much expectation on your child. Would be best to manage your expectations. |
| A WISC is only @ $380 in your area? How did you find the psych who administered it? |
George Mason. |
| How does the WISC compare to the NNAT? Its not fun to have the WISC done but it certainly helps if you appeal for AAP. They do not always choose the correct kids (Half the time they cannot even remember all the names ...) |
Yes. Was sympathetic until OP rolled out this. |
| I don't think you need a WISC. I am willing to bet that the NNAT in pool score will be lower this year. At my child's school they only had seven out of one hundred score "in pool" based on previous pool numbers. Typically they have far more than that score in pool on the NNAT. If your child is getting pull outs then chances are you will also have a high GBRS. My son had a 126 on the NNAT and we did not WISC. He made the pool with his CoGAT. His GBRS was pretty high - a WISC would not have done us anything. On the other hand we did WISC our other child....she did really well on the NNAT but she has a disability that affects classroom performance. So seeing that score we wanted to learn more about her. |
| Thanks everyone- yes, I agree had I read my prior post I may have reacted the same as others. This board can drive you to sharing too much and then it justifiably comes out as too much, Thanks again- really note sure though.. have to talk to DH about WISC testing. |
