$1400, .9 karat, from Zales. Then we got it reseated in a really nice custom designed ring with filigree from Dominion Jewelers, plus 2 matching bands, for like another $1500.

I'm not big into rocks so I kind of thought it was too much to spend.

.8 carats, simple gold band: $1,700 in 1990

Custom band with six princess diamond and original diamond: $2,000 in 2000

New very high quality, larger diamond (3.4 carats) and Jack Kelege band: $50,000 in 2010.

Divorce in 2014: $120,000K

That about sums it up.

Exactly! I sold my engagement ring and tossed my wedding ring into the Potomac River. My daughter will get the pretty anniversary ring when she's older.

Point is, no piece of paper or ring can make a person treat another with respect, especially during stressful times. Learned that lesson!

How do you know how much it cost? My husband designed and bought mine without me. I had it appraised for insurance ($6500 for one carat with a diamond band setting), but I have no clue what he paid. Do those who know the price go ring shopping with your fiancees? I am just curious.

My stone isn't a diamond. The ring cost $1500 five years ago. Even spending that much on an engagement ring seems silly, I can't imagine the people who spend thousands and thousands. So ridiculous IMO.

I do love my ring, though.

$1000 used from a jewelry store in NY, platinum .5 carat.
