Mattress

We bought a gorgeous bed from Room & Board today, but we don't know a good place to buy a mattress. We both love firm mattresses but would prefer a mattress that limits shaking if the other one moves. I'm tempted to just get a mattress from Room & Board (they'd arrive at the same time and we would no pay for additional shipping), but wonder if we would get a higher quality mattress for less elsewhere. Thoughts?

Seriously, we got an awesome mattress from Costco. Really firm (which we love). I think it's a combo memory foam and coil.

Check out latex -- online or in store

We have a Room and Board Bed as well. Purchased a latex mattress from Sleepez.com

I believe it was significantly cheaper than buying from Room and Board

Try Urban Mattress in Vienna.

Absolutely go to Urban Mattress in Vienna, VA (and get brunch/lunch/dinner at Maple ave Restaurant) we bought a crazy steel slatted bed from R&B and love our mattress from Urban Mattress. We had to return a firm Costco mattress (their "firms" are anything but firm.) the customer service at UM is amazing as well, which is crazy for a mattress store- considering the rest are basically crooks.

I've heard good things about Saatva and Tuft and Needle.

We bought the most expensive king Ikea innerspring mattress of all natural materials (wool and cotton), and their latex topper to go on top of it. It is is heavenly for us. And still much much less than a king mattress from anywhere else.

Watch out for flame retardants - I would ask about this.

Couldn't have said it better. Mattress salespeople remind me of used car salespeople. Lots of marketing buzzwords, price points, etc... Throw in the fact that different retailers have mattress manufacturers create retailer-specific brand names (or agree that only 1 or 2 retailers can carry a particular brand) prevents consumers from comparison shopping.

I just want to walk in, lie down, find a comfortable mattress and negotiate a fair price without gimmicky discounts (i.e. 50% off an inflated MSRP to look like a good deal). I'd also like to avoid a $200 delivery charge. That's literally highway robbery, particularly if you're buying a mattress that only costs $500-$800.

I had to check the date to make sure this wasn't me on an old post. We did the same thing. Love the latex mattress from Sleepez. Also happy with a memory foam from Healthy Back that is now on the guestroom bed.

I just had a great mattress buying experience by watching these "Beducation" videos on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=beducation

I then went to the Healthy Back store and found the mattress I liked (wrote down the specs and bed name) and then I called the Mattress Store owner in these videos and gave him my business. Great pricing and they ship anywhere in the US. As you'll find by watching the videos, there are many different names slapped onto the same exact mattress, making it impossible to compare pricing from store to store.

I am a completely satisfied customer by using https://www.matt-to-go.com/ and have been giving positive word of mouth since my experience. If I can point just one customer in his direction, I'll feel fantastic!

Thanks for listening,

Happy Owner of a Pure Bliss latex mattress

Yep, Urban Mattress is the perfect place to go. They deliver for free and will take away your old mattress. They brought our mattress the next day. We were looking at spending $1500 for a subpar mattress elsewhere. We ended up with the Lumina luxury firm from Urban Mattress $699 for a queen. They had pricier mattresses, but we really liked this one. 2.5 years later we still love it.
