Early bloomers born in Q3/Q4 should play down under the umbrella of biobanding?

The example of MLS biobanding rule is served as an example that a league can setup its own rule under the BY system.

ECNL wants to resolve trap players issue soon, then it should allow 2 or 3 Q3/Q4 players to play down in their grade now if ECNL will switch to SY in 26/27. There is no point to wait another year for the ultimate change.

MLS Next biobanding follows biobanding guidelines established in other countries

Not a concept they just threw together
They don't. About 200 pages ago someone pointed out they just had the club submit paperwork in MLS Next. They aren't looking at parents heights and growth rates of kids to determine if they are late in puberty. Remember, biobanding isn't to help short kids, it is to help slow growers who are expected to grow later.

ECNL does allow 2 trapped players to play “down” while their home team is in Highschool soccer season. Once the season is over, they go back to their home team.
I hope ECNL can make the trapped players play "down" permanently while waiting for the 26/27.
They won’t for Spring 2025 in MD. They are back with their “home” team. I have not heard anything for Fall 2025 yet.

Aren't the 2010 Q4's playing U15 now with other 2010's?

Wouldn't playing with 2011's next year have them playing down?

So you are saying they have been playing up the last 8 years. Got it.

Funny I never hear Q1 to Q3 parents lament that Q4s have been playing up all this time.

All we hear is that these lackluster Q4s now get to play down.

That's rough for this year's trapped players, if they start in the Fall of 25', the trapped players would essentially get that lost year back though, correct?

Playing down translation = Your Q4 kid who will now play with his/her grade is taking my Q1 kids spot.

ECNL goes rogue with a fall 25 change!?

That would be bold.

That would be too bold. If there was no change ever, maybe. But pushing it to 26 has to be just enough to make ECNL grumble, go along with it, and just make some transitory change for 25.

I'd be with you on the logic here but zero mention in the announcement? They thanked everyone and their grandma for their input and alignment but ECNL, the #1 talent destination for female players doesn't even get a nod. No way that's by accident. They question is, why? I look forward to 70 pages of speculation but my guess is they made their position clear...and its threatening.

What are you talking about, they thanked them first. You guys are clueless. US Club = ECNL.

If the google doc is real, I think it gives US Club enough wiggle room to start immediately, even if that means some sort of waiver system for the rest of 25'.

Whoever starts earlier will be able to get more Q3/4 players, currently there’s a lack of a full age group in the older teams. Those clubs that start early will be able to have plenty of players when time comes and all the other leagues do it formally.

Agree the early adopter will get more of the market share in this one. Most Q3-Q-4 won’t want to sit around on a team they will be ineligible for the next year..that just doesn’t make any sense . They would be the odd man out with it hanging over their head all year. Why would you be a mercenary for a year knowing you are booted the following..if ECNL goes early or figures out a work around they will allow for more settling earlier…

Yep, if the change is indeed coming in 26, every club will have incentive to unofficially change earlier to grab Q3/Q4 kids before their value increases. Combine that with the parent outrage on display about the delay causing awkward temporary rosters for even more club incentive to jump the gun. At minimum, expect A teams to put some more late birthdays on their bench to prepare for the future. The mere prospect of change coming in 26-27 will cause a miraculous improvement in RAE.

And THIS is why soccer will continue to struggle in this country. Worried about winning trophies with any physical advantage possible instead of developing skilled, technical, smart players who know how to use their size - no matter big or small. Like a goat that keeps on eating paper and ramming his head against the wall.

Let’s be real. What you are complaining about is the same from both sides of the SY and BY argument. Everyone just wants the advantage. So, let’s not pretend to be righteous because even you have an opinion for the exact same reason.

Surviving HS age Q4 in the top team will dominate the younger group. Eight years of playing against older kids will definitely make the younger Q1/Q2 parents scared.

In case anyone is wondering about the veracity of that "leaked" US Soccer doc - it's referenced by a very reputable source here:

Can someone please summarize what they think will happen to US Club Soccer? My kids are Q4 in academy, expecting that one will be pre-ECNL by 2026/2027

I am smart. I already moved my ECNL kid to MLSN so he can avoid the trap year. His former teammates now practice with the younger NL team. I am not sure how many games they can play on the younger team, as they already have a roster of 21 players. Undoubtedly, every player on that team hates the trap players joining their teams during high school soccer. It must be a tough four months for them.

What a shite show, US Soccer! Now this topic will reach 800 pages by this time next year, to have a definitive answer or you knuckleheads will kick the can down the road another year.

At this point, I can care less if it's BY or SY. Just make a decision and let all the families move on.

US Club Soccer will change to school year, everyone is still waiting to see if they will make this change in the Fall of 25' or follow US Soccer rec's that no one [b]should start till Fall of 26'.

But isn’t that the change planned for 26-27 so what would they be waiting for in 26-27 if they’re doing it already?

Can US Club Soccer decide to go SY in 25/26? I thought US Soccer said no change for 25/26 and then in 26/27 leagues can change to what they see fit based on guidelines from US Soccer. What about US Soccer’s release leads you to think ECNL will do something next season?

There is no "Planned Change" as they haven't planned or approved anything. They discuss these things from time to time and this has taken a life of its own. If you're getting your information from this, or any other forum, be prepared to be mislead and misinformed.
