Are gallery wall photos in? Do you have one ? Where in your house?

I am thinking of it ting be in our bed house in the icing room, my "decor" friends say they are too old fashioned, outdated. I have to admit, it was a pain taking down all the photos of my last house.

I don't have an icing room and I don't have photos up of my last house.

You might want to have a little chat with Siri.

I guess the "pottery barn gallery wall" is out. In the sense that the Pottery Barn look is out. But I'm pretty décor-y and I have a gallery wall in my house and love it and it looks great. Black frames, white mats, and b&w family photos. The photos are at the top of the stairs in our little rowhouse, and include lots of conversation pieces - so when people pass by they stop and are like "oh goes, this picture is awesome". Lots of retro pics of my parents in the 40s and 50s and 60s, grandparents looking awesome in the oughts. I think it still looks great and not dated in our house because of style is white/grey minimalist, so it blends in well and adds some family pop.

But if your friends with décor sense are telling you "no", it may be because your house is otherwise too old fashioned, and it will therefore create more of the pottery barn look.

ANd I just googled it, and it looks like gallery walls today are more inclined to have a lot more color and eclecticism - mismatched funky frames and the such.

This is what I have in my space. We have eclectic decor in a small-ish modem space, and I have a couple of gallery walls of art, some homemade, some bought, interspersed with photos, some of which are art pieces, and some of which are colorful family photos. I get frequent compliments.

Yes. It peaked in 1999 when it was on Friends. Was passable until 2005. I'm surprised there are still Pottery Barn's in the mall anymore. It may still be seen in Reston, but not in design-forward areas.

You will go broke if you try to always be "in." Buy and use the things you like in your house. Don't worry about what other people think.

Nowhere. I didn't realize PB was out. I agree that too many photos in one area can look old fashioned, but like a PP mentioned, it's kind of homey and nice to see pictures of your life and older relatives. I think the new look of mismatched frames is going to date quickly because it's cluttered and, depending on how it's done, a bit of an eyesore.

I think you should decorate your house with stuff YOU like. Who cares what fashion-forward non-Restonites think. Life is too short to give a fuck.

West Elm is the new Pottery Barn. Same company owns both so its a win/win for them.
