Do you have a termites protection? How much do you pay? Got a quote for $900+ initial fee

plus $200 something very year "renew fee" from Orkin. We bought a house last year and it came with a one year termite warranty from a company called "PestNow." They just sent us a letter saying the warranty will expire soon and if we want to renew it. Their fee is $99.00 and it includes inspection of course, and treatment in case of termites….

The difference in price is so astronomic that I am at a loss here...

Renew fee? That seems a bit offensive since they want your business. We have Terminex. I remember, bet being shocked at the annual fee - something like $800 - but Dh insisted since he grew up in an area with termite problems. I've definitely made it worth my while and I call Terminex when we have ant, spider, or bee problems.

Agent here. PestNow is great. Orkin is a ripoff but that is a big discrepancy. Is Orkin covering all pests or just termites?

Only termites. Well, if pest now is great, I am going with them!

Yeah, to renew the warranty… I think the only difference between them is that Orkin said they would put "stations" and come inspect the stations (which are bait for termites) and in case they see activity, they would treat. For what I understand, Pestnow doesn't have stations, but comes inspect and if there is a problem, treat it.

do you really need annual termite protection?

OP here. Are you asking this to the board in general or to me specifically? I am a new homeowner and I have no idea if we really need it, but then what if we have an infestation? I mean, in this country the houses have so much wood that I can't even imagine the costs… Insurance doesn't cover termite's damages.

$900 initial fee with $200 annual renewal fee is outlandish.

NP here. I am also a new homeowner and wondering if we really need the termite protection package offered to us. Our home's exterior is brick over cinderblock.

I have brick over cinderblock. Almost every year I've had a termite inspection of our rim joists in the basement and around the house. I've also checked the attic.

You don't need a home warranty: it's nice when you are selling to give for a year. It is worth putting some time into annual or biannual inspections.

We have PestNow. Our house, which we bought last year, previously had an infestation, termite damage and was treated. So for us, yes, we need termite protection.

Our sellers paid for termite treatment before we closed. Pest company then quoted us about $80/year for termite inspection/protection. We've found it's been a small price to pay for the peace of mind.

Hmm I use Western Pest Management for ours, but maybe I should check out Pest Now. I think we pay $200 annually. Our house is all redwood - we definitely need it.

We used PestNow for an ant problem we had when we moved in; they're great!
