Where to get? We are thinking of replacing our front door, and I love the look of lacquered black. However, a preliminary look at a few shops has turned out next to nothing (all opaque) and DIY seems hard with this type of finish.
If you have one, where did you get it? Thanks! |
no no no. Black? no |
I think it would be pretty easy to achieve with paint, but you could go some place like TW Perry. They do special orders all the time. |
There seems to be a trend toward black doors. I think it looks nice when the house is beige in color. I've never seen a glossy door, only a satin finish. I suspect it's extremely hard to maintain a glossy finish on a door that is exposed to the elements. |
Am I missing something?
Buy a wood door. Paint it with glossy, black, oil-based paint. Worked for us, anyway. |
use a water borne alkyd interior/exterior high gloss paint, like BM Grand Entrance, and oil based primer. |
+1 to paint. |
This all depends on the door and where it is located- is there an overhang or storm door that protects it from the elements? Is it facing the north so it does not get so much sun exposure? No matter how you paint it, if the door is exposed to the sun and elements the gloss finish will wear off fairly quickly. |
+1 |
Glossy black doors look great. Good enough for No. 10 Downing Street, anyway! |
I painted mine myself. Bought a high gloss paint in black and it looks great and holds up fine...just need a couple coats. |
Love mine!!!!! |
It's terrifying that OP thought you need to buy a pre-made glossy black door. It's called paint and 30 minutes of your time. |
Black may not be the best idea if your door gets full sun. If you door lives behind a storm door I'd try to avoid dark colors as the heat can build up and the door can warp. |
