Everytime a condo is built and/or a gentrifier moves to DC the city becomes less & less interesting

Anonymous
The city is becoming more cookie cutter with each condo being built and each gentrifier arrival.
DC has turned into the exact same thing the gentrifiers were trying to escape (the suburbs) by coming here in the first place.
The city used to be interesting but those days are long gone.
DC has turned into a disgusting overpriced yuppie sh*thole.
I'm not hating on anyone I'm just stating facts.

OMG RIGHT??? Who needs another 1 bedroom rental for $2200?

Facts, huh? Okay.

I am a self described yup but there is one thing I do not understand.

Why do these new arrivals pay $2200 a month to live near chain stores, Starbucks and other disgusting condos?

Move to Europe.
Move to the Caribbean.
Move to Japan.

Move some place exciting.

Why would anyone want to be surrounded by cookie cutter blandness?

Many parts of DC are shit holes. I am all for gentrifiers coming in and making the area safer and better.

There aren't enough gentrifiers in my neighborhood in NE.
Plenty of drug dealing and moped riding hoodies though. Can we also trade one of the 5 liquor stores in 2 blocks for a Starbucks? Pretty please??

I hate cookie cutter places myself, but I'll take a yuppie "shithole" over an actual shithole, which is what DC was before yuppies moved in.

Dont worry I am sure some developer will discover your neighborhood soon and turn it into this.

I would love to move to Europe, the Caribbean, or Japan... at least for a little while. But the problem is those places won't give me a job. So DC it is.

I prefer 14th St NW as it is today than as it was in 1985. I, also, am just stating facts.

Not true.

I used to go shopping with my mother and grandmother in downtown DC when I was a child and it was far from a shithole.
They used to force me to go and I hated it.
But looking back on it now it was interesting. Exciting. Fun.
The exact opposite of right now.

Now post some pictures of that same street, except further east, after the 1968 riots, and of that same street in 1990.

Shorter OP: I wish it were still 1962.
