| While usually it bugs me when people eat on the Metro, I have a small dilemma when I was simultaneously annoyed by the man sitting next to me eating a bar, and then realizing (because of the strong smell) it was a peanut butter bar and being delighted at the outrage so many DCUM parents would have at him eating a peanut product in an enclosed public space. I think it was a thread last year about parents giving their kids nuts as a snack at the park. Oh, DCUM. |
Metro is so fucking bad now that people ought to be allowed to bring a grill and camping equipment on board. |
Hmm. I see no prohibition against open flame. |
So you would be delighted that some kid would have a life threating reaction on the metro? I guess you were delighted when those people died on the metro from smoke inhalation b/c some one on DCUM would be outraged. You are really fucked up. |
| OP, I think you need to have a little more empathy. I know it's very hard to understand something for which you don't have experience. I don't have any severe nut allergies in my family. But my sister's children had a kid die at school because of kids sharing snacks that they didn't realize had nuts. It's really insensitive to make fun of people's fear about this. It's a very real fear (just Google deaths from nut allergies). Of course, that guy eating a peanut snack on the train is not going to kill someone, but to gloat over this is really mean. |
Whoosh, hon. I think her glee was over the specific flavor of outrage featured here in dcum. Take a reasonable position - "nut allergies are serious, I am very worried about my child in this world" - now ratchet up the rage, to show you're a warrior mama and prove your parenting cred - "nuts have no place anywhere! they should be illegal, and people who are found with them should be tried for manslaughter!" I hope they can find a workable treatment for food allergies. I can't even imagined the terror knowing that a tiny little speck could kill your child. |
If there's going to be smoke in the tunnels, it might as well be from a good barbecue. |
People are not supposed to eating any food on the metro! http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/faqs.cfm Can I eat or smoke on Metrorail or a Metrobus? It is unlawful to eat, drink or smoke in the Metro system because of the labor and cost associated with maintaining the cleanliness of the transportation system as well as for safety reasons. Customers can be cited by Metro Transit Police for violating the no eating, no drinking, and no smoking rules |
| Maybe fining people who eat on Metro will bring in enough revenue to fix the system. |
LOL |
| Not worth going to jail over. |
| we just ate peanuts on an airplane. How does DCUM feel about that? Southwest gave us said peanuts. |
| Once, I saw a Metro employee (wearing her uniform) sitting in the seat on the other side of the train from me, eating. Unfortunately, I didn't think about taking a picture until it was too late. I always thought that the prohibition on food/drink was a good idea, given how many rats (dead or live) I've seen in the NYC subway. It's not for a lack of rats in DC, as any visit to a city park after dark will show. |
I took my son to NYC over the summer, and we found the rats in the subway entertaining. That's how we passed the time waiting for the train--see if you can find a rat down the tracks. |
| I get sick from the jerking of the train so I have to eat something small like a cracker or a nutrigrain bar. Pretty sure my fellow passengers would prefer that to puke. Never had this issue prior to 2009. |
