Reasonably priced Lacrosse sticks

I signed DS up for Lacrosse, not knowing how insanely expensive all the equipment is. I'm might have to unenroll him if I can't find a reasonably priced lacrosse stick. How can a hockey stick cost $150? What if he gives it up in 4 weeks? Is it possible to find one under $50 or should I just stick to the poor mans' sports?

Have you looked on craigslist.org or eBay?

Since he's in boys lacrosse you also need:
chest protector
elbow pads
gloves
hard cup type of jock strap-football not baseball style-some sort of compression shorts have inserts
HELMET-DON'T GET USED

the used lacrosse pads often stink from sweat and you can't really get it out. madlax has everything ..........................

I have all the padded things from martial arts...can I use those?

Maybe the team/league has extra equipment esp sticks that you could use until you find your own gear.

I can rent most of the gear for $15, but the stick I have to bring. .

It's weird that the stick costs more than the entire session of classes!

No. Buy the child his own helmet . Get it fitted properly on his head at a place like Madlax.

That price seems awfully high! I bought my daughter who is on JV a stick for $40 at Dick's. Maybe the boy's sticks are just more expensive...where did you look?

Try Dick's in Washingtonian or the lacrosse shop in Bethesda. My husband coaches 13 year olds and he sends them to Dicks most of the time for sticks. They do range in price depending on what they are made of and how serious the player is but at the youth level a $40/$50 stick will do. I bet there will even be a coupon in this Sunday's Post for $10 off $50 at Dicks or something similar.

I have not seen them but I bet Sports Authority has youth sticks as well.

You can get sticks and pads at Modell's, Dick's, almost any sporting good store in the area. I would not buy the helmet at one of these places. Go to a specialist like Sports Extra in Bethesda, MadLax in McLean, PJ's near Montgomery Mall or near Tysons. Have them help you with the helmet fit. They come in a limited range of sizes with adjusting pads usually. A misfit helmet can be a danger.

Also, since he is a DS, get a cup.

Lots of middies and attack wear rib pads. Oops. We forgot stick tape, 2 mouth guards to attach to helmet [one spare] and cleats on this list. Football cleats NOT soccer.

If your DS is young, you don't need all of this. Rent the shoulder pads, gloves, slash pads. Buy a mouth guard and hard cup, and insist that your son wear them. Buy the cheap stick from the chain store; if he gets into it he can move up. Rib pads are nice but not critical. Stick tape is advanced, soccer cleats are fine for beginners.

But I would spring for a helmet fitted at a specialty store - you don't want to mess around with that one.
