Too much hw for MS class?

HW every night except first day and Erev Rosh Hoshanah in one course. Ranges from 10-20 minutes of work. Sometimes a worksheet, sometimes studying for a quiz, sometimes work on a long term project. Too much for a 7th grader?

10-20 minutes too much?

Tehehehe!

10 to 20 minutes a night total? Or per class?

If it's only 10-20 minutes per night for everything, that's not too much at all. In fact, it's a pretty light load. Buckle up, buttercup....

In one specific course, the teacher is assigning nightly hw of 10-20 minutes.

This doesn't sound excessive.

Perfectly acceptable.

That's an amount that would be appropriate for first or second grade. Guideline is 10 minutes per grade level for non-advanced courses in most schools I'm familiar with. Admittedly that's only a small number, but still.

Perfectly appropriate, certainly not excessive.

A few hours a night for a single class would be excessive, but my middle schoolers were both told to expect up to 3 hours of nightly homework total (all classes combined). They rarely had that much, but they certainly had a few minutes per class on many occasions. They were assigned more homework than they ever did at home... they made excellent use of bus time and of dead time before/after school or in other classes.

Pretty standard and reasonable.

Normal, not too much. We are not at pressure cooker school just average public and this is normal. But probably 2 subjects nothing (PE and arts rotation). So this is between 1-2 hours a night. DCs (one 6th and one 8th) make use of time in school to kick out half of it. Also, try to put in extra time on weekend to limit weekday nightly homework and it usually turns out to be 30 minutes or less. They do Spanish vocabulary whenever they can at home like while eating breakfast, waiting for bus, or driving to practices. I have found 7th slightly more than 6th and 8th slightly more than 7th.

It is perfectly reasonable. I might even consider 10-20 minutes too light. I'm a teacher, and I used to make my son take notes and reread chapters on nights he wasn't assigned formal homework, or when he only had 10-20 minutes.

Completely normal.

My 8th grader would love to have that much homework. On a typical day, she gets home at 3:15, and chills for an hour or so (her words). Then, it is homework from 4:30 - 8 with a break for dinner. Somedays, she is lucky and done by 6:30 (dinner is from 6:30 - 7:00), but others, she is working until 8 or 9.

In the 7th grade, she seemed to have more free time, but it turns out, she was not doing all her homework.

This isn't 10-20 minutes total every night. This is what one teacher assigns every night for her specific class.

PP didn't say it was. "Homework from 4:30 to 8" even with a break is a few hours of work. 20 minutes for one class is a small amount and totally normal.
