Tan tan ramen with ramen eggs (time consuming only because they have to marinade over night)—we like The Woks of Life recipe.

I use the pressure cooker almost every day.

Yum! I looked up that ramen because our favorite local shop went downhill and it's so expensive anyway for something that probably should be simple. I want to be able to make something in between the restaurant and the package so I'll try this https://thewoksoflife.com/tan-tan-ramen/

Do you have a favorite recipe for the egg? The one time I tried ramen eggs at home (don't recall the recipe source) the egg wasn't that good.

It takes all kinds!

And of course you contribute nothing.

Uh, I contributed upthread. But it seems like you might be having a bad day, so I hope it improves.

Says the one who sneers, “It takes all kinds,” because you’re better.

I contributed beans and rice, which is generally considered poor people’s food. Not exactly a play for superiority.

If I inartfully stated that I was surprised by the variety here, I’m sorry for that.

1) Any kind of slow cooked meat whether it's pulled pork, Mississippi pot roast, etc.
2) Creamy pasta dishes or Asian noodles
3) Salmon

All of my kids have strong opinions, one is vegan, one is vegetarian, one is super picky and has food allergies, one really loves meat, one loves spice . . . .

If I had to pick the top 3 choices that everyone likes I would say:

Bowls with brown rice with either teriyaki salmon and tofu, or lemongrass chicken and tofu, plus veggies.

Homemade pizza with choice of toppings, plus caesar salad with vegan caesar dressing, and chickpeas with crouton flavors.

Hot dogs and burgers (veggie and meat) with buns and grilled veggies and grilled corn.

I also contributed my family's top three (but then when someone mentioned crepes- I realized that's everyone's #1) and I also find this thread fascinating. I didn't think the pp was being disdainful by saying there were things her family wouldn't touch - I agree! But I also wouldn't be surprised if someone else's kids turned their noses up at my kids' favorites. Favorite dinners are kind of an initimate unique thing in each household.

For those of you saying crepes, what do you put in them? Do you have a favorite crepe recipe?

DH is the crepe maker in our house, but he has it down to a system. My kids eat 4-5 each and usually have relatively small appetites. So it is a big production for the 5 of us. We usually do a mix of savory and sweet crepes. Sometimes for a birthday dinner, we will just do the sweet crepes (fillings of fruit, honey, nutella, peanut butter, etc. Maybe we will get creative with cream cheese or sauteed apples in butter and cinnamon sugar). Everyone makes their own variations. For savory crepes it's usually honestly a leftover use-up - ham, cheese, egg, spinach, mushrooms, bacon, sausage- basically anything you'd throw in a quiche may end up as a filling.

+1 Growing up I was crazy for my mom's lasagna. It was my birthday food choice every year. My kids will only eat it reluctantly.

I'm happy to see that for many other families it's their #1 too!

Same.

Lasagna was always my birthday dinner choice.

Anonymous wrote:When they were little, they loved those whole chicken roasters from Perdue already seasoned that you cooked in the bag. Penne pasta with butter and Dino nuggets were the next favorite.

Now that they are older they love 1 filet mignon sous vide with an avocado ranch salad on the side, 2. chicken pot pie made with a sherry bechamel sauce, celery, carrots, shallots / no peas and puff pastry top, and 3. smash burgers on pretzel buns or homemade bolognese sauce.

Can you give us the recipe/instructions?

If making for dinners - I serve as is. If cooking for extended family, I also add starters and desserts.

- Goat biryani with cucumber-yogurt raita.

- Penang chicken cashew curry with jasmine rice.

- Roasted cornish hens with mushroom risotto.

Yes! The ramen is so good and easy to make because it’s not a bone broth. My favorite is https://www.justonecookbook.com/ramen-egg/

The key is the cooking time and ice bath. I do 7 minutes in boiling water because we like the yolk to be jammy.

Egg roll in a bowl
Shrimp quesadillas with avocado salad
Spareribs, collard greens, and sweet potatoes with baked or fried apples.
