40% of American women under 45 want to permanently leave

Well living somewhere is different than visiting and there's pros and cons to all places. But..

Our current country is not great. The US of years ago when folks wanted to immigrate for a better life here because of so many pros is diminishing.

5 yrs ago maybe US has more pros than cons but soon we will have more cons than pros.

We are currently the laughing stock of the world.

For the first time ever in the history of the United States, more people are projected to be leaving than coming in https://www.npr.org/2025/07/04/nx-s1-5455815/more-immigrants-likely-to-leave-u-s-this-year-than-enter-forecasters-say

Not all places in Europe are the same.
There are also options outside of Europe.

Healthcare, food, education, public transportation, gun control - these are all very important to many people, understandably.

Deep blue inner city Baltimore has all that stuff

All three of my kids wants to move overseas: DD, because of the threats to women’s rights and healthcare; DS1 because there are more academic opportunities in science overseas; DS2 because of the threat to free speech at the universities.

The 60% that want to stay in the US, probably.

I love the USA. It’s give me a new life. You have it so good that you take it for granted here.

This true, but the rights we fought for are being taken away. The country that our grandparents worked to build is taken over by oligarchs that want AI to run everything.

My DD are 14 is all about study abroad and never coming back. My DS age 16 wants to study abroad as well. Both have been paying attention to the news and A students. I have zero problem with their choices. When they leave I'm leaving too. DH is a white guy who was never about moving out of state but even he has become open to the idea of not being here.

This country is slowly but surely changing. It's not the country that was even a few yrs ago. While everything changes, our changes are horrifying. You all talk about pros and cons and not knowing how good we have it here with opportunities, freedoms and choices. Y'all understand all that's disappearing correct???!

I have lived in several European countries and in Japan and even with the prevalent misogyny of trump and his administration, the US is still better. The grass is not greener on the other side.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned in the cost of childcare. It is much lower in European cities than in US cities. And maternity leave is also far more generous.

Being an immigrant is tough. I’m desperate to leave but nicer places don’t want Americans and getting a visa let alone citizenship is an uphill battle.

I don't understand why Americans want to move to, particularly Europe so badly given they pay higher taxes for public services and earn a whole lot less overall. All the high-skilled people limited by their market in Europe move to the United States to earn more than they do in the old continent.

Have you been in a coma for the last decade?

New poster here. I lived in the UK for years and also worked in Germany for a brief period, plus many work trips to offices in Germany. Europeans make substantially less than Americans, especially at professional roles. Salaries are lower. Cost of living is still pretty high, especially in cities where the good jobs are. Many aspects of QoL is lower, such as housing and material comforts. There are some things they do well, such as national health (which still come with plenty of restrictions) and vacation policies. And I do love the cities. But European economies are more moribund and career growth is more limited. You'd be surprised by how many high performing Europeans have actually moved to the US for careers. Dubai is also hugely popular due to jobs and tax free incomes.

Europe also has significant cultural and political challenges. Some economic related, others over mass migration. The latter is an enormous tension point. And, guess what, European countries have stricter abortion laws than blue America (shocker, eh?). The grass is definitely not greener on the other side of the fence and spending a week in a fancy European city center isn't a taste of real life for the typical European. I've seen a particular hysteria and that is totally clueless among young progressive American women who have no idea what life is really like outside the US.

Talk about clueless - a 50 something dude lecturing young women about their opportunities.

And BTW, you must have missed the abortion law talking point debunking. Even countries with stricter laws have broad exceptions for life and health of the mother. Women in Europe aren’t dying of sepsis and pre-eclampsia because doctors are afraid of being prosecuted for saving their patients’ lives.
