What are 5050s?

Tall boots by Stuart Weitzman that are leather in the front and a stretchy material in the back. The construction makes them more fitted than some other boots (and they are a godsend for those of us with chicken legs who don't always want to bother with finding a shoe repair place that will make boots more narrow). They come in different heel and shaft heights, but PP is likely referring to the over-the-knee version.

I don't think you should assume anything

I suppose. The knee-high ones are nowhere near as ubiquitous.

And where exactly are you going in a knee high boot?

Not the OP, but I went to a holiday party a few weeks back with leather skinny pants, a leather halter top and beautiful over the knee suede boots. I'm thin though. One of my husband's friends said, I'm sorry, but Got dam you look good! It was not a very DC outfit.

Just because men find an outfit hot does NOT mean it's fashionable.

I’d be totally mortified if a husbands friends said this about or to me. Not the attention I’m looking for, but to each their own

I love ones linked below. Also, tall boots are absolutely everywhere right now, with skirts, dresses and under wide leg pants.

It's not a DC outfit because it ISN'T boring as hell! Good for you, PP. I'll bet you looked great.

by the way I have black 5050's and wear them with my DVF wrap dresses and I look fantastic in a sea of super boring.

This sounds like the quintessential boring and DCUM outfit for 60 year olds.

Just because men find an outfit hot does NOT mean it's fashionable.

Lord people. It was very fashionable. I get compliments every single day. Mostly because I don't dress like a frumpy DC woman. I am a lawyer and executive. I'm horrified by women in DC.

The fact that you think pointing out that you are a lawyer and executive supports the idea that you are fashionable is actually the most DC thing ever. Lawyers and executives are not generally a cool or fashionable bunch.

In most places it's rude to ask people what they 'do'. In DC it's the first things mom ask the class playdate.

PP here. You are right, in DC lawyers are usually not fashionable. I don't fit the mold. Every city has a question. Some places it's based on church, others it's what high school you attended. People in DC tend to do really interesting things. It starts a conversation. What is wrong with that? Are you mad b/c you don't do something interesting?

I just don't understand why you brought up your job as a flex on a thread about boots.

PP here. It's DC. I don't consider being a lawyer a flex. It started with the question of where you would even wear knee high boots. The suggestion that DC women are plain as can be. Lawyers are usually pretty plain. That why I mentioned the lawyer part. Some of us hate that this is what DC has become. It was not always that way. Are you insecure b/c why are you harping on the lawyer thing. It's DC.
