| Two years ago my daughter spent most of 10/31 on the phone. UMD portal showed transcript not submitted but school showed transcript submitted. She called and they said oh on our end the transcript shows as okay but the college board shows as not submitted. On college board page, showed as submitted. People finally said it must be a glitch in the portal. It was all maddening. Really feel like if the kids have their stuff in by 11/1, that should be sufficient — kids can’t be expected to control their school, the college board, and the random vagaries of diffetrent portals not communicating. |
| Is UMD the only school which you should actually submit 2 weeks before Nov 1? |
| What recourse do we have if everything has been sent weeks ago, but the counselor only sent in his part a few days ago so the portal still says Incomplete? |
As long as it was sent, it should work out. |
DD submitted 13 EA applications, UMD was the only one that seemed like it needed lots of extra time. |

Just to allay concerns, DS submitted his UMd app 11:40 pm day it was due last year (his school counselor had not given advice to submit 2 weeks early).
He was admitted to LEP and honors. Take a breath. |
| UMD IT department needs a complete overhaul, it’s unacceptable that it takes 10-15 business days, they must be on old technology systems. Our experience applying this year left a bad taste, DS applied via Common App 10/20 as suggested and we have had to babysit this thing by phone up until 10/31, and continuing via emails on Saturday 11/1. There are hundreds of schools across the country who successfully process applications within 2-3 business days. Very surprising for a top STEM school. |
| Last year one of my kids teachers did not submit a recommendation to UMD literally until half an hour before midnight the day of the deadline. It was fine. |
for UMD yes |
yep all those teachers insisting they can be late with their recs are really screwing over the kids! |
yes it's not the only one - need to check with each school |
does it show submitted in common app? |

Do yourself a favor if your child is applying to University of Maryland - join their group for prospective parents. There are years of parents who have kids at umd to share their experiences and answer your questions. There are staff members who will give you guidance - don't dm them as they don't accept fb messages. This group helps youout until your kid makes a decision. If they decide to go to umd - you move into their other group for parents of kids who are enrolled. It's helpful and it's info from people who actually know.
