SOLs unusually low scores in reading this year?

my 5th grader (dyslexic) got pass advanced reading last year (505) and pass-proficient this year (455). He did mention that the test was really long and they had the kids take multiple breaks.

I have found benchmark has been great for my child who has dyslexia and an IEP. They have significant increases in the reading and got past proficient on There SOL for fifth grade. I think because it focuses on phonics it’s a significant help to my child and that’s someone with dyslexia needs.

My 5th grader got a 589, up 75 points from last year. He often struggled with the practice worksheets he brought home (I couldn’t even see why some of the answers were correct), but maybe it helped prepare him. Who knows

My 6th grader get 495. I tell him it is not good even though I know he is not strong in literature. He tells me he even don't know the questions. This is his 1st SOL I believe.
Anyway, kind of relieved seeing some similar cases.

Look, on teacher Facebpok pages, at what teachers across the state are saying about grades 7 and 8 reading tests. They are saying scores are down and there are almost no 600s. In the entire state.

7th and 8th grade would have nothing to do with Benchmark, FWIW.

My 11th grader scored a 34 on the reading portion of the ACT and scored a 458 on the 11th grade reading SOL. Go figure!

How on earth is this racist??? Almost everyone I know that has a child in AAP also has their child in math tutoring or somewhere like RSM, AoPS, or Mathnasium, regardless of their race. I'm actually really surprised that there isn't language arts enrichment courses available like Beast Academy/AoPs so that kids can read more advanced passages or write better essays. Honestly, I'd probably pay for that, my kids are terrible writers. Benchmark helped with writing, but they're not writing the 5 paragraph essays that I was writing in elementary school English.

Odd that this is a school by school thing and not automated from the score database.

My kid told me her score. She found out from her own middle school teacher. But then yes, I looked on SIS and reading was in the testing history. Math isn’t posted yet.

My 5th grader finally passed! I was happy.
