SOLs unusually low scores in reading this year?

Are you all finding SOL scores in parentvue? My kids have taken all their SOLs but it only displays 2 titles with a 0 for both. The other 3 for my 5th grader don't show up at all yet.

Odd that this is a school by school thing and not automated from the score database.

Maybe you should find some English enrichment for your child similar to the math program you put him in to make sure he does well in math.

Per our school's Assistant Principal, they're trying something new this year and using an automated system to upload provisional scores to SIS once they have them. 5th and 7th grade both are experiencing a glitch with the scores and are showing as 0s for everyone.

We saw 7th grade scores 8 days after the test was taken.

Both of my AAP middle schoolers down over 75 points in reading. No math scores yet. Teacher reported I was the 5th parent today emailing out of concern for this same reason. Kids consistently earning mid 500s and up over a period of multiple years are scoring way down, and way down compared to Iready. These
are kids that consistently read high school literature, Shakespeare, etc. This isn’t just Larlo having a bad day, but the test being off this year for some reason. Teacher said ignore it- it’s meaningless if they passed.

But… curious if anyone else had this experience? Is it benchmark program? Is it that schools are just overburdened? Or … perhaps my kids just need to get off screens and into books more? 🤣😬😁

Isn’t the test adaptive so that a stronger reader will get harder questions and a weaker reader gets easier questions. It’s not really “Standards of Learning” anymore if it’s tailored based on skill level. This format is intended to challenge skilled readers more and bring up weaker readers so they meet in the middle right? Maybe in the name of equity?

Really? Cause my kid passed advanced in 7th grade. English is his weakest subject, but he manages to pass advanced every year. Maybe your kid is struggling with MS English standards?

Yes, that is how it works. Which means it is a crappy final exam to give. Kids who are ahead get harder questions and if they miss a few of those, their score drops. Kids who are behind get easier questions makign it easier for them to pass. We are not measuring to a starndard but testing apptitude. I am pretty sure that is what the iReady/MAP are supposed to do but what do I know.

Benchmark assumes that you had the previous years to build on. It's possible that older students this year did fall a bit behind where they would have been because they needed to adjust to a totally new curriculum style. AAP also used to use its own curriculum for reading and now they're using the same one as everyone else with extentions to make it more rigorous.

My 4th graders reading is significantly better this year (pass advanced). Math is still pending. YMMV

No scores yet for us

As an FCPS veteran teacher, let me say don’t overthink this. As long as your kid passes, that’s all that matters. They mess around with the tests every year and the cut scores differ. Don’t read too much into this. I see the questions because I have to read aloud to special education students, and some of the questions are very confusing. It’s a ,to more about how good of a test taker your kid is.

My kids' reading scores are up, both have higher scores this year (by 25-30 points) still pass advanced. They both reported that they thought it was easy. (6th and 8th grade AAP).

I like that they are sending the scores straight to SIS, but if they are provisional as a PP mentioned, they should be marked as such

I don't have my kid in any enrichment but maybe I will have to start since FCPS isn't going to do it. Luckily I have the means. And as usual, the kids from less privileged backgrounds get screwed.
