Ensuring second child is a boy

I knew about Shettles 30 years ago and if you follow his logic and suggestions, aiming for a boy is much easier than aiming for a girl.

Basically Shettles believes a boy is more likely right at ovulation, and a girl is more likely if you have intercourse several days before ovulation (then abstain for a bit).

Well, common sense says it's easier to predict something that is happening right now, rather than estimating when something might happen in several days.

I did the basal temperature method for a year before we tried to conceive, so I was very aware of the morning my temp dropped (if I remember correctly), then I think it quickly raises. If you conceived, it stays raised.

I was mainly hoping to improve the odds of conception, not necessarily try for a particular gender, but I essentially followed the boy recs for quicker conception, conceived the 1st month and had a boy. Repeated 2 years later and had a 2nd boy.

I wouldn't have had the patience to try for a girl, where you stop intercourse 5 days before predicted ovulation, then if no conception after a few months, move to 4 days prior, etc. That could take a year.

Years later, in my 2nd marriage, we decided to have a baby and just went for it. I wasn't doing basal temps anymore, so I had no idea of any ovulation timing, and again I conceived 1st month and had a girl (I realize I am extremely fortunate with fertility).

This was before ovulation predictor tests, so I have no idea if those are as accurate as monitoring basal temps.

IVF with PGT is the only reliable way to pick the sec of kids.

There are some studies, in both animals and people, suggesting that very high status individuals have more sons. So an alpha female wolf has more male cubs than female cubs, on average, and male billionaires have more sons than daughters on average. This seems to be related to the lowered stress level of mother who is secure in her social status affecting the eggs to favor male sperm entering. If you want to take this research to its logical extreme, to increase your chances of a girl you would stress out like crazy and try to feel as poor and insecure as possible, while to increase chances of having a boy you would aim to feel relaxed and pampered and try to feel like a queen.

TLDR; raise cortisol / stress levels for a girl, lower them for a boy. This changes odds only slightly, though.

Assuming your husband wants a boy, you should tell him about this advice regardless of whether it's true and that it's crucial that he treats you like royalty
