Is it possible to eat only 1500 calories a day?

So you’re “lucky” in that way, I guess! It does require a whole rethinking of the “nutrition” we learned as kids, which was frankly a lot of bunk.

I am 5’2” and my maintenance is 1800. Weight training days I need 2200.
1500 is do-able on inactive days, I skip a meal here and there when don’t feel like it. But everyday 1500 for over a month gives me depression.

I’m 5’8” and 128-130. I eat 1500-1600 calories a day and lift weights, walk, and do yoga. I eat well, mostly lean meats, veggies, and whole grains. No dairy or alcohol. I’m rarely hungry unless I eat junk. I don’t do much cardio, but if I did I’d need to eat more. I’m not skinny but lean and muscular with some curves.

1500 is the absolute minimum for any healthy woman. Less than that is certainly not healthy and hardly "doable." I can't believe the eating disorder on this site.

No, that's the amount to maintain weight for most women. Particularly if you're older than age 40 and under 5'10 in height, you're going to have to drop below 1500 calories.

BS, I am 5’6”, 43yo and I am maintaining at 2300.

+1. 5’7”, 44, and I can’t lose if I drop under 1700.

NP If it was so easy everyone would be thin and fit!

Op I would first count every food you eat. Start cutting out the 'easy' foods or drinks first. For example, instead of a grande latte get a tall. Once you know what you eat and when you want to eat you can change your habits.

Do you eat when bored? Substitute for something else or get a different snack. This is a lifelong battle so remember not to sweat any 'mishaps' and just move on

If you're used to eating like a normal person, going to 1500 calories will feel like a huge change. Even tracking and thinking about calories can be really annoying. I recommend drinking tea, coffee, or other low calories warm drinks to suppress hunger until you figure out what works for you.

NP. No, it’s not. 1500 is pretty normal for people who eat healthy food. If you’re eating fast food every day, I can understand how this number would seem low.

Have they diagnosed you with an eating disorder yet?

Have you figured out that you don’t have to shovel junk food down your gullet at every meal?

Unless, of course, your metabolism runs at a different rate. Some of us do not feel satiated at 1500 calories, despite eating lean protein and veggies, so it can be challenging for us. I really hate the “It’s not hard…” blanket statements. It CAN be hard for some people — these people always feel hunger, for whatever reason and despite doing the “right” things.

she's extremely thin because she is burning a huge amounts of calories. Running that amount I can eat whatever I want and drop weight

Most everything we've been told over the years is wrong, starting with that food pyramid.

Yep. My dad eats an apple and dinner. Kind of miserable but he is trim.

I worry that you are too obsessed with your sisters weight and activities. You have posted this multiple times and I’m not sure you’ll be happier losing the weight, which you don’t even need to do- you are perfectly proportionate according to any chart. You probably have bigger bones than she does, or a larger frame. I hope you find what you’re looking for and some peace too.

Anonymous wrote:Most women around my height (5’3”) are recommended 1200-1300 a day so that sounds about right.

This is exactly where I am at at 5'3. I was hungry at first and then adjusted and realized I was way over eating. Lost 35 pounds. Now look very healthy.

Nutrient >>> calories.
400 calories loaded with proteins, carbs, minerals >>>> 1000 empty calories from sugar.

If you want to be lean and work white collar jobs you need to adjust intake.

are you….saying that people who work white collar jobs are not normal? Are you lost?
