What is interesting is you can practically tell how they rate the schools by the number of likes. Harvard = 418, Princeton = 358, Duke = 324, Michigan = 318., CMU = 300, UVA = 200, etc. |
Virginia Commonwealth University 340 USC 269 A lot of social media is about the popularity of the kid. I am more struck by how aside from a small number of kids getting into princeton and harvard, the rest of the class destinations looks about the same as a base school |
Perhaps, but read it more carefully. The VCU admit is guaranteed MD program admission and Presidential Scholar, the most difficult admit in the State of Virginia. USC is much more esteemed by high school aged people than older people. |
You can’t conclude anything by just from 20% post on instagram. |
| For sure more headed to GMU in class of 2025. My kid (TJ senior) thinks it has more to do with the fact that new admissions standards resulted in more lower income immigrant kids whose families want them close. And many of those kids got full rides. It’s a perfect arrangement and GMU has good programs for tech kids. GMU may not be selective, but it’s a good school. |
NP. Jerks who really hate TJ are numerous on DCUM, I’ve concluded. Just this thread alone shows the hatred: the OP asked a simple question but page of consists merely of mean-spirited attempts to make dumb jokes. DCUM mostly hates TJ it seems. |
but it's been ~20% for the last 4 years and this year seems different. |
The left hates TJ. The concept of some students being "better" than others really bothers them. It's like we are questioning the value of any kid that doesn't get into TJ. It's mostly projection. The rest of us are bothered by the new admissions process. |
|
This is just basic human nature feeling, it does not have anything to do with the left or the right. Same as AAP, same as college admission. |
The right doesn't seem to have as much of a problem with merit based systems of selection. The left would replace the hierarchy of merit with the hierarchy of oppression. |
I highly doubt that someone who misspells easy words and writes run on sentences teaches at TJ. |
I don't know if the PP is a teacher but there are a lot of kids headed to GMU this year. I think some of it is a money issue and some of it is a academic issue. GMU is a good school. |
No. Not for nova kids it is not. That must be a money issue. While it is a decent mid tier option like JMU it is better to go away to college rather than go to one where you could drive home for lunch. |
| Lots to William and Mary judging by the instagram. |
