Do you share political views with your Gen Z child?

Yes, and we all wish the Dems picks someone else for November.....

I'm a conservative democrat and my H is a never trumper republican, which means we essentially have the same political views.

I don't think Gen Z's really understand politics truthfully. They don't understand that the republican's have gone off the rails, they never knew a normal republican party. They don't know what it means to be conservative vs alt right.

In this day in age, they are liberal... but that only mean that they believe women should be equal, gay people should not be discriminated against, nobody should overthrow the government, etc.

They don't even talk about different philosophies for foreign relations, economic methodologies, freedom from religion.

So we spend time trying to explain how politics use to be and try to discuss topics but they just show us fake videos of Biden sounding stupid or Trump acting like an insane clown.

We do talk politics regularly. DH is conservative and I am a moderate - (which today means I am unhappy in both parties).
We have one DC who will be voting for the first time this election. They align with DH on most things. My younger two are both in high school still. One is probably between me and DH, but still sees things black-and-white, and the other is left of me, pretty liberal.

What do they believe that is “more liberal”?

We're all various shades of center-left, but like many people, we don't exactly match the platform of our political party.

For example, I think the US should definitely reinforce southern borders to better serve the migrants it lets through, as well as stop uncontrolled migration. We need the work skills and dynamism of migrants, but it's silly to have them running around undocumented.

I believe abortion should be less restricted, and that doctors are most able to advise on the safety of individual procedures. Late-term abortions are incredibly dangerous, and doctors should be the only ones to decide whether they are feasible on a case-by-case basis, with the woman's wellbeing in mind. But I also want fetuses to be treated humanely, with techniques that will minimize their pain. I want fetal remains to be treated with respect and returned to families, instead of being treated as tissue waste.

And for goodness' sake, we need common sense gun laws and much more government control over the price of drugs and medical procedures! Europe does it, the US can do it too. I'm from Europe, I know the quality of healthcare in my country is perfectly decent and the prices don't beggar people who need care.

And I have no opinion on sexual identity debates. Everyone can do what they want, as far as I'm concerned. But why talk about it so much? It's weird.

If you have a 20something… Gen Z. Does your child have similar political views to you, or did they rebel, in which direction, is there some overlap, or are they comparatively less political?

Please try to keep it less about the politics itself and more about the dynamics of values differences, influences, and how you observe your kids coming into their own on how they perceive the world.

Fortunately we do have enough overlap to not make it difficult to have conversations.

My boys all have DH's politics, which is interesting because neither of us ever talked politics with them growing up. I had different politics before DH, but have come to see things his way as our family grew up.

DH and I are solid dems, but 22yo DD much to left of us. 17 yo DS pretty apolitical at this point, but seems to lean a little more conservative.

Too late for that. You’re stuck with Weekend at Bernie’s.

A am a bleeding heart liberal, spouse is ani-political. One child matches me, the other is essentially liberal, but likes to argue, debate and discuss opposing viewpoints (whereas I think anyone who is a right winger is an uneducated moron)

We are all liberal, although only my older kid really pays attention. She is threatening to either not vote or vote third party because of Biden's stance on Israel-Gaza. I would rather vote for a different Democrat, too, but I'm not really interested in seeing Project 2025 come to fruition, so Biden it is.

I am a right-leaning moderate who does not enjoy talking about politics. My right-leaning moderate daughter loves talking about politics.

I’m a moderate who generally agrees with my oldest (my youngest seems to be trending right as well).

My moderate right-leaning older DD is currently trying to convince me to write in for Nikki Haley and is very pro-Israel. She is pro-life and believes there are only two genders but she supports gun restrictions and thinks gay people should be allowed to get married. When it comes to book banning she thinks that graphic sex scenes shouldn’t be in school libraries. We are Hispanic and she thinks immigration reform is just a way for Democrats to keep winning without actually solving any problems and making it easily to immigrate legally. She doesn’t want immigrants living in school gyms.

This is us as well.
