Brooke Pinto’s political future

I have a better opinion now of her than I did when she was first elected. She seems to have a pretty good grasp on the issues. She's also pretty public, engaging with press. She's definitely a big step up from crooked Jack Evans, who apparently is shameless enough to be considering running for the Ward 2 seat again. Please, don't, loser.

Tom Sherwood reported last night that Evans is not running.

This is facts

My husband was saying similar stuff and I called him on it. There's some misogynist, classist attitude towards Pinto I can't quite put my finger on. As far as I can see, she's the ONLY councilmember demonstrating common sense right now and that's what I judge her by. If she fs up down the road, I'll determine. But for now I think Pinto bashing reflects more on lazy reflex (yes, my hubby can do that) than her.

Google The Plan and DC to understand why some Washingtonians are distrustful of her and her crime bill.

I misjudged Pinto as a dilettante when she squeaked thru in the primary.

She’s actually been a very good Council member, has responsive staff, and is probably the most energetic person on the Council. She’s smart.

Will happily donate and vote for her next time around. I’ve already written to her to express our family’s support for her crime bill to which she sent us a nice response.

Keep it up, CM Pinto.

I'm not sure I'd find my way to what you want to share. Can you explain your distrust, in a nutshell?

Then you aren’t actually listening to what people are saying about her.

She’s getting attention for her crime bill now, but everything she’s done up to this point has been lightweight stuff. I’ve contacted her office multiple times about different things and they never respond. My neighbors report the same. Not very impressive on that front. I’m not disputing she seems to have some common sense, but I don’t think that qualifies her as some superstar. She’s meh. Not outstanding, not terrible like the others, but just fine.

The Plan is a conspiracy theory in Washington, D.C., which posits that since the enactment of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act in 1973, white people have had a "plan to take back" the black-majority city and the offices of the local government

She is a loser carpetbagger whose daddy bought her a Council seat. No respect.

The bill is window dressing with either unconstitutional or borderline unconstitutional provisions that MPD will abuse. Nothing will change except paying even more in MPD settlements. The process has been quite rushed and it largely a bad law.

Facts. She’s a Racine person and we all know how horrible he was with crime, one of the main reasons we’re having the problems we are.

She is practical and tackles tough issues -- which her constituents contact her about, ie crime -- and so has the support of
many of her constituents. There's a reason no one is challenging her in Ward 2 this election cycle. I could see her running for Attorney General or moving onto federal government.
Several of the CMs likely have future aspirations in the political realm (Robert White for Mayor next term, Charles Allen possibly if Mendo ever exits etc.) The Council is not generally coming up with common-sense legislation on many issues, just keeps taxing without looking at effectiveness /ROI, and Pinto counterbalances that, IMHO. Now that she is in the role, I just care what she does to make the lives of District residents' lives better and will take her over CMs who don't understand the budgeting or legislative process or consistently talk out of both sides of their mouths. Finally, I think the CM who best understands how to govern and manage competing constituencies and find reasonable solutions is At-Large Christina Henderson. She would be the best person
to run for Mayor next cycle but I am not sure she will, preferring to wait until
later. Henderson is smart, experienced in various capacities of government service , detail-oriented, has a set of values she does not flip-flop on and does oversight well. She also is not beholden to former AG Karl Racine for helping her get elected like several of the current CMs or to monied interests per se.

If Brooke is so great, can she do something about the trash piling up in Ward 2 (including in her own neighborhood)? Nothing has been picked up for 11 days now. 311 does nothing. Meanwhile trash continues to overflow all of the cans in the alleys and on the street.

This city can't even handle basic services. It's a joke.

Basic city services will continue to decline. The Council is completely beyond having the ability and skillset to focus on those issues and Bowser is checked out. There is no other way for it to go.

Can you explain this better? Because DC is hanging by a thread and we need to find our person/people and save our city. Is she a Racine person in the sense that he is the first person she worked for before she branched out (I've had bosses I disagreed with in viewpoint-sometimes when you are starting out you just land where you land), is she a Racine person in the sense that she wrote all his policy, defended his positions, and wholeheartedly supports him STILL or is she a Racine person in that she was sort of onboard when she worked for him, but has branched out/matured now that she is in a totally different position and perhaps can see the ramifications of some of his policy from a different point of view (let's call this the " we grow and change"). I'm not willing to write someone off just because they worked for Racine, but if she is carrying his torch to the finish line, sure....

Thanks for more detail.
