What happend to Famous Amos cookies??

I picked up a box yesterday, but haven't had them in a while. They used to be SO GOOD! Now they taste like generic store-brand chocolate chip cookies. Did my palate change, or did the cookie recipe? If the latter, where can I get the old-version Famous Amos cookies?

I also recently had F A cookies and thought they were not good. Oreos were so much better!

Probably had to eliminate the trans fats.

I remember reading that the Berger cookie company in Baltimore went to the mat to preserve their recipe because they said removing the trans fat would ruin the taste.

He stopped making them. I think the company that bought the brand didn't buy the rights to the original recipe but I could be wrong. You can do a google search to get the full story. I know it was a big deal at the time.

OP here - it looks like Kellogg bought it, and changed the recipe. The cookies are awful now.

Seems like Mr. Amos began re-selling the original recipe under a brand called 'Chip & Cookie' - but it may not be available because of some agreement violations? I couldn't quite grasp the details.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get the old Famous Amos cookies anywhere (even if called something different)? They were so delicious! Nothing like the ones under the label today.

But at least the "new" Famous Amos cookies aren't addictive at all...

The cookies were always awful. I always wondered how he became famous from dry, bland tasting cookies.

They were never anything special. Fine for a mass marketed cookie, but that's it.

Try the trader joes chocolate chips. I think I remember having some that seemed similar to famous Amos.

I dislike dry cookies like that. They remind me of chips ahoy. They're like cracker cookies they're so dry

You never had them 20 years ago - they were so good. A hint of coconut, perfectly sweet, a good crumble (but not crispy) yet some still slightly melty chocolate chips for a boxed cookie.

The new ones taste like cardboard. They are awful.

Flashing back to my favorite vending machine breakfast in high school (the golden years of the mid-90s): Famous Amos cookies and vanilla coffee.

Yes, I did- in fact I haven't had them since then because they weren't anything to clamor for to begin with. Not that they were bad- just nothing special.
