class sizes in AAP?

Just out of curiosity (I have young kids and have no idea if they will ever be in AAP), are class sizes capped for the AAP classes differently than the regular classrooms? I had pictured this as a way for a more intimate teaching setting - say with a classroom in the low 20s max of students. Is this not the case? Seems like the point should be to provide a more innovative and individualized classroom setting for these children.

No, the formulas are the same. As a result, it tends to have some schools wehre the AAP classes are bigger and some schools where the Gen-Ed classes are bigger. It all depends on the number of students in each grade in each program and if there are close to the cut off or not. Generally, the bigger the program and ES, the larger the classes.

In recent years, OP, many AAP classes at the popular centers like Haycock, Louise Archer, Colvin Run have been quite large. This is due in part to population growth, but primarily to more parents figuring out how to get their kids in even when they don't need a specialized learning environment.

AAP classes should never be smaller than Gen Ed classes. AAP kids are already given advantages such as getting to choose between their base school or the center. In no way, shape, or form should they then be given the smaller classes, while the Gen Ed students have to put up with larger classes. There's enough inequity as it is.

FCAG released a study last year showing AAP kids were in larger classes-- and were significantly more likely to be in classes of 30+. DDs class is 37 (!!!) this year.

22, 27, 24 all at a center school. All under 30. Study is wrong, apparently.

You're right. Anything that a huge statistical analysis says is more likely to happen in hundreds of classroom across the county must automatically be false because it is not happening in the 3 that you know about.

It is always odd to me when parents of young children are posting on here like they are trying to predetermine their children's fate. Why, for example, wouldn't you be more interested in finding out what your child's class size would likely be in kindergarten? First grade?

Not the PP, but this describes AAP classes at our center as well. All are smaller than the GE classes. Unacceptable.

What school? The limit is 35 in grades 4-6 at the start of the year.

Yeah, they're supposed to hire another teacher and split the class with those high numbers.
