Feds can telework. This is going to be a nightmare (traffic, Metro). Just want to get a heads up.
Anyone heard anything? |
| Why can't DC govt telework? |
| When is this? |
Sept 22-24. Full schedule here. http://www.popefrancisvisit.com/schedule-category/pope-francis-visit-washington-d-c-schedule/ |
Doubt it. I work at the World Bank and we follow the Fed schedule for closures. Last time he was here we were open and I remember people taking pictures of the pope mobile from their office windows. |
Was, but that was Pope Benedict. Pope Francis is far more popular. Therefore more crowds, far more chaos and gridlock. Ugh! |
| Fed is open for business. No reason to shutdown for 3 days. |
| ITS, which is one of the closest schools to the Basilica, is closing for a half day at noon that day. I'm not sure how that helps families much to have to come pick up children in the middle of the street closures. |
|
DC will likely do telework as well.
It's going to be a clusterf*#! of traffic. The only saving grace is that Yom Kippur is right in the middle of the visit so that will lighten up traffic considerably. MCPS will be closed and some workers will stay home with their kids that day even if they aren't Jewish. |
| DC will NOT do telework. bowser is hardly practical when it comes to these things. Heck, my agency doesn't allow any form of telework anyway so there's really no infrastructure in place to do this DC govt wide. |
| Lee is closed one of the days. I don't love it but I appreciate that they gave a month of advance notice. |

| Good yontiff, pontiff! |

I have been wondering about this. Brookland Middle School is really close to the Basilica, as is Bunker Hill ES and Luke C. Moore HS.
But, my school has scheduled back to school night on the 24th, so I'm guessing not. Not looking forward to traffic, though. |
| DCPS closing for three days for because the pope is here would be ridiculous. last time a pope was here I don't remember any issue (we actually saw the pope from our school's playground ride back down Reno road to the Vatican embassy, it was the end of the day, there was no traffic anywhere). there are schools that might be affected depending on his schedule, but this can be addressed school by school, certainly not with a general closing, and for three days. I assume he would move around mostly during the day when kids should already be in school, and before the various after care programs let kids out. |
