Any chance DC govt / DCPS might be closed when the pope is here?

I assume he would move around mostly during the day when kids should already be in school, and before the various after care programs let kids out.

I don't think you understand the enormity of this event. Roads will be closed from Dupont Circle to Brookland to Capitol Hill to all over the freaking city. Thousands upon thousands of Francis loving tourists will be in town. Pope Francis is not Pope Benedict.

Everything was open when Benedict came, and he literally rolled down Pennsylvania Ave.

I don't think you understand the enormity of a three day closure, Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday, of DCPS while I, and tons of other DCPS parents, would have to work full time. if you cannot get your child to school, keep him/her home. I will make sure my kids will be in school on time regardless of the pope or the Chinese president or whoever decides to come to DC. I think it is great that the Feds are encouraging workers to telework, but DCPS needs to stay open.

Where do you? Not all of us had the same experience. Mid-city, traffic was a mess.

Because the DC government gets the 'tele' but not the 'work' part.

Because no one really cared about Benedict. Even the Church has forgotten him. At major churches, you see memorabilia for Pope John Paul II and Francis, but nothing about Benedict.

When I was in HS outside of Boston in the early 80's they canceled classes when the Pope came- mainly because it was also Rosh Hashana. So, it was a double whammy. It affected 75%? of the student body. They made a rule that if x% of teachers asked for a religious day off, then school would be cancelled and it qualified.

The Pope and the president of Red China:

Holy and Godless.

Yin and yang.

23rd is Yom Kippur.

Oops, my 35 year old memory is faulty. It was 1979 and you are correct, it was Yom Kippur when Pope John Paul II visited Boston. I forgot that part of my HS experience was at the end of the 70's.

We will not be attending school on the 23rd because we observe Yom Kippur (nice yontiff joke, PP) and will be walking to our neighborhood school on the 24th. Not seeing the problem here.
