there was something really wet. For a second I thought it was her bathing suit, but when I dumped it in the washer, I noticed her shorts and underwear were all soaking wet. And I smelled the urine. It's clear she peed on herself.
I've never noticed that before, so I'm pretty sure it's the first time.

There are no changes in the household and nothing really new or stressful going on, other than the beginning of the school year.
Do you think it could be just an accident/anxiety related?

I'm not sure if I should gently ask her about it or just let it go.
What would you do?

Is she in a new school? This has happened to my 10 yo DD also. She does not like to use the toilets at school, and hates to have to get permission to use the bathroom. I went over the class schedule with her and encouraged her to use the bathroom at a time she was changing classes. I told her not to ever risk cutting it close with getting to the bathroom and ensured her that if any teacher questioned why she was not in the classroom, that I would have a conversation with them. I think you should discuss it because if she's holding it in too long she could get a UTI.

Let it go, but watch. Don't be specific about this (how mortifying, especially if it was just failure to go quickly enough) but inquire how things are going generally.

By chance did you give her Benadryl yesterday? This happens to my ds aged 9 when he is totally dead tired or medicated.

My 10 year old DD just did this this week and she's the kid with an iron bladder. She laughed about it, said she had a crazy dream and that she must have been super tired from just starting school again. No big deal.

I have dreams where I need to pee really badly but can't find a clean, private bathroom. I wake up needing to go really badly. Weird how your dreams can reflect your bodies' needs.

Funny enough, my weeks away from being 10 daughter did the same thing one night this week.

The next evening, she said, would you be and at me if I did something? Im not sure I should tel you. She finally did tell me, we talked it through that she might have forgotten to go to the bathroom right before bed, and I told her I was only slightly annoyed because she told me so late there was little time to wash her bedding.

It happens.
