| Surprised to find that Mr. Gillespie and Mrs Yu have left LMS, two of the best teachers the school had. What a pity! |
The departure of two teachers at a school of Longfellow's size does not strike me as very noteworthy. Teachers come and go, and some of the best teachers my children have had in FCPS have been new to the system. |
| FCPS pay is much lower than arlington and loudon. FCPS are over burdened with budget constraints due to the low income ESOL populations not located in the McLean area. |
There is not a meaningful difference in pay between Fairfax and Loudoun, and Arlington has a higher percentage of low income students than Fairfax. In any event, are you saying these two teachers, in particular, left for higher pay in another jurisdiction? |
New Poster. I don't know about Longfellow, but there were several teachers that left McLean HS last year for higher paying jobs elsewhere or similar pay in lower cost of living areas. I don't really keep track, but it seemed like more left this past year than in previous years. |
I was at a PTA meeting this spring where the McLean principal reported on a higher than usual level of impending departures. There is also a picture up now on the school's webpage of 20 or so new staff members for the coming year, so it appears they filled the vacancies. |
Fortunately, one of those new faces replaces one absolutely useless excuse for a guidance counseler. |
| I'm not sure whom you're referring to, but we loved the counselor who left (and was promoted) to become the director of student services over at Stuart. |
I don't remember her name. Was big into ladybugs . She was generally unresponsive and when we needed her help on a couple of different occasions she was not helpful or supportive at all.
|
I poked around a little. It was her. I'm glad you liked her, but we're glad to see her go. |
| Gillespie has a year long promotion. |
Not sure I understand - he left to get promotion somewhere else? |
Not exactly a promotion. He is working for a year in instructional services. He will do a great job in that role! |
