husband bought a coffee mug and t-shirt that says "I own you"

Would you be angry? I find it very disrespectful and he doesn't get it. I've already told him many times it's rude to tell people that you own them. He's foreign so maybe this has something to do with the miscommunication. This really makes me angry.

Get him one that says your d**k is going to be lonely so long as you think you own me.

You are over reacting.

Wut? You are under reacting.

On the other hand, this sort of tshirts would give a clear signal to me and others like me to give this control freak dude a wide berth, so maybe it works out.

I hope this wasn't a gift to you. Is he pro-slavery? If so, well, there's your problem. Is he not an native English speaker? He needs to trust you on this one.

Isn't it a sports term.

My kids say it all the time playing basket ball... "I own you"

Where did your DH get it? I need one for my DH right now. I own him as he's not working right now It was a joke. He would find it funny.

I think women would find it more offensive than men, for obvious reasons.

I've told my husband that I have papers on him now and he has said the same thing. If it bothered either of us, it should stop. So no, it woudn't make me angry unless I explained my feelings and they were ignored or dismissed.

I would just think it's stupid. What, he's gonna wear it to the mall and everyone who walks by is supposed to think he owns them/dominates them? I don't find it particularly offensive, I just find it to be on par with those t-shirts with cartoon lady bodies in bikinis on them - trashy and stupid.

I feel like it depends on how he gave it to you/context. Laughing totally joking? Than you're overreacting. Semi seriously? Than he's a douche.
Anonymous
You know his sense of humor- is this in line with it or not?
Anonymous
Technically he does own you.

idk DH and I joke about this all the time. But we have a great relationship and it's very equal. YMMV

He said at wal-mart. I'm out of town right now so haven't actually seen it. I'm also pregnant so he knows I'm always on edge.

haha I found it strange that he got the t-shirt because he never wears t-shirts with graphics on it . He actually doesn't even leave the house with a t-shirt because he prefers to dress up.
