Probably. I didn't even see it yet. He just told me about a coffee mug and t-shirt that says "I own you" |
Maybe I am just naive or something, but if I saw that T-shirt, I would take it to mean that the wearer of the shirt is “owned” by coffee (caffeine). Perhaps you are reading way too much into this shirt. |
| You'd rather he was just renting you for a while? |
I didn't see the t-shirt and I didn't know there was a coffee mug on it. He made it seem like he bought me a coffee mug AND a t-shirt which said "I own you" |
ha I rather if he didn't make derogatory comments like "I own you" |
I hope you can see by now that your reaction was more about you, and maybe hormones being out of wack, than about anything your DH did. It's a little unreasonable to get so upset about a t-shirt (and coffee mug, if that was your understanding) sight unseen. |

Look, I'm pretty old (50), but I still know that this is a very common phrase nowadays:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=own+you It has nothing to do with slavery, actual ownership, or chauvinism. It's a competitive thing. |
| Yeah, it's douchey. But why use a misogynistic insult to describe it? Let's call it a real dick t-shirt. |
That IS what it means. It sounds like there is a significant language barrier over the phone between the OP and DH... he must not have explained it correctly. |
|
Maybe if this were the first time he said this . He says crap like this all the time. I am Arabic / Muslim and such talk, though it's starting small, I can't swallow this easy. Some Arab men DO believe they have more control over their wife. You can own an animal. No one can own a person. |

| Maybe he wants you to fill up his "I own you" coffee mug while playing his video games while wearing his "I own you" t-shirt. It's tacky and "common". |
he doesn't play video games first of all and he doesn't even drink coffee! |
