The Battle of Hormuz

Kharg Island is 500 miles northwest of Hormuz. Sending the Marines in to take Kharg guarantees the Strait of Hormuz will be mined and closed to all shipping for likely years. If Iran can't export its oil, no one can.

To take Kharg, the Marines will have to fly in by helicopter from Kuwait. And Kharg is within easy drone and artillery range from the Iranian mainland. It's going to be a high casualty battle.

MEF would parachute in.

And then what? Be sitting ducks? Kharg is 15 miles off the coast of Iran. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel and lead to mass slaughter.

I don’t think Zelenskyy is amused at all. This situation is terrible for Ukraine. Russia now has sanctions lifted and sky high oil prices that will provides lots of revenue. The Europeans will be hurting from the economic effects of this. The US will have less to give in terms of munitions.

What planet are you living on? Given the US military targeting of civilians, there is no international doctrine to prevent Iran from doing the same now and none of our allies are with us on this. Trump really rattled a hornets nest and expects everyone else to come in with the smoke and nets.
