McLean 07 is still a better team than FCV. Go ahead and explain why Jeff Cup this weekend has Loudoun Red 07 top bracket, McLean Green 07 second bracket and FCV United 07 in the bottom bracket. Do you think you know more than the Jeff Cup organizers? |
| Does anywhere know where spirit plans to get their 07 girls from for next year? If everyone plans to stay in their respective club for DA or ECNL (mclean, arlington, loudoun, fcv)? Also, not affiliated with spirit, just an 07 parent asking. |
Don't know much about either team but the FCV 07 team you're talking about plays in 06 league so they may be forgoing got soccer points to play in a higher age group which would then result in a lower bracket at jeff cup. |
It goes past this year for the 07s. They have trailed Loudoun and McLean on points forever. FCV picked up NCSL league points (over 1000) while Loudoun does not for CCL. Also this same team lost 3 games to Loudoun by 22-1 in goals. They have always been worse. The great hope was that come U13 tryouts they would pick up the best from these clubs like they always did. That's not happening. |

GotSoccer points for 07s
1. Loudoun - 13,138 2. McLean - 9,347 3. FCV - 4,547 |
I don’t know more but I know as much because all they do is use gotsoccer rankings. |
ECNL Mid Atlantic isn’t elite competition? Compared to what? I’m assuming the GDA Mid Atlantic division? If you’re going to bash McLean then bash McLean but dragging ECNL into it first make much sense. Put it in a different thread? This smells like Wash Spirit VA parent meddling. |
Well then FCV should have more points and be top bracket from the cupcake leagues and tournament brackets they play in. |
Doesn’t make much sense. * |
As pointed out earlier, it is overstated how much of a pipeline Loudoun Soccer was for FCV. When there was only FCV kids came to FCV AND McLean from a variety of clubs throughout the area. The sheer number of ECNL clubs including DA's is what is making things at FCV harder than in the past. McLean is hurt by Arlington DA, Spirit DA and BRYC ECNL. FCV is hurt by BRYC ECNL, VDA ECNL, Loudoun ECNL. The problem with Loudoun, as demonstrated here in this thread all ECNL did was solve a lingering retention issue among their lifers since U9. But how much new blood is actually coming into Loudoun. How many non Loudoun kids are at Loudoun 07 ID sessions? And I know, the Loudoun 07 group is a strong team now but that doesn't make the club a place that kids who want proven college pathway are necessarily willing to go to Loudoun. Loudoun lacks colege placement track record of FCV, McLean and BRYC. And on that front Loudoun is starting from scratch. There is an element of risk for outsiders to go to Loudoun even with ECNL. If you look at the boys side Loudoun wasn't a full DA so there is a lack of club experience with high volume college placement. Frankly, Loudoun currently lacks the college placement connections that can be the difference maker in whether a college coach takes the time to look at player A from Loudoun over player B from McLean during a busy showcase weekend. If Clyde Watson and Rae Ann both email the same college coach regarding their respective player and both players are playing at the same time what kid do you think the college coach is going to watch? |
Loudoun does not need to play the recruiting game much because they have such a deep bench. They field 5 travel teams each age group U8-U12. That's 90-100 travel players in each age group to develop. While Red 07 is #1 in the state, Black is #9, White is #26 and Silver is #54. That's 60 kids in the top ~50 teams in the state. Compare that to FCV - United is #3, Classic is #85 and Elite is #89. Good club but not deep. So they rely heavily on recruiting. That's why Loudoun ECNL is a big impact to FCV. Your point on recruiting is valid based on history. But ECNL is brand new to the club so this is likely to change. If Loudoun retains their players and does well in ECNL starting with 07s, the college coaches will come. Therefore, the risk is low and that's why you see the shift to players staying. |

That isn't always how it works. Club coaches build relationships over years that go a long ways to propping the door open with college coaches. These connections make a big difference in the example above. Two kids, different teams, both are interested in the same school but play at the same time. Kid A sends a letter of introduction inviting the coach to their game. Kid B does the same thing but the club coach has a history with the college coach and sends a followup email ahead of the game detailing the qualities of the player. What game does the college coach go to?
Same scenario but this time club coach for Kid A also sends a similar email as the Team B coach but this coach lacks a relationship or history with the college coach. What game does the college coach go to? That slight advantage may be all the difference the kid needs. The college coach is no going to watch a team, they are going to watch a player. |
| McLean 07 has already lost a couple of players mid year to other teams. Loudoun will likely be the dominant local team in this age group unless they suffer similar defections to Spirit/FCV. |
| What clubs did the players go to? Any reason for the mid-year switch? |
| Why even discuss it? Wash Spirit VA is going to beat all of them anyways. |
