Your privilege is showing… drive through wards 7 & 8 and report back

Uh, I spend A LOT of time in Wards 7 and 8. Again, where are the slums? clearly YOU have not been to Congress Heights, Hillcrest, Deanwood, historic Anacostia, Ft. Dupont - seriosly, not slums and houses going for close to a million, and billions of investment coming in a st Elizabeths, Barry Farms, Bridge District, Minnesota Avenue and so on. I think you have NO idea what you are talking about. Does that mean there are not problems? Of course not, but the city you and the president are describing is not reality.

Your rebuttal to being told your privilege is showing is to cherry pick examples of areas where houses are selling for close to a million? What?

I live in Minnesota AVE, there fights and some gun shots sometimes, its safe.. no need for the National Guard to come. No need for a federal takeover..

I live in Shaw.

We hear of shootouts near 7th and O (drug activity and rival gangs) all the time and all of our neighbors stopped going to the playground at the Kennedy Rec Center.

The Shaw library branch has a group openly dealing drugs and other merchandise right in front of the doors. The library staff hates it but said they have no jurisdiction outside the doors. There are shootings every couple months right there. My kids and other kids go there, sometimes I think I'm crazy for allowing that, but I'm determined to live in a place where my kids can do the very innocent activity of getting books from their neighborhood library.

We all avoid the bus station at 7th and Florida, because there are always about a dozen people tweaking out, maybe from fentanyl.

There is absolutely a crime problem here and a feeling of lawlessness in DC (no consequences). That doesn't mean Trump has the right solution, but he has identified an issue. We aren't doing ourselves any favors by pretending it's not true.

Your story is completely anecdotal. I have friends who live there and say it’s fine.

Oh got it. So, your "friends" say it's fine and that makes PP's story wrong and anecdotal. What is their story, but anecdotal?

I'd trust an anonymous poster commenting on this over my "friends," any day. No one wants to admit to you that they regret their purchase or rental area, PP. They are telling you it's "fine" to convince themselves, and so you won't stop going to their parties.

If they can't afford to pay rent then where should they live.

I'm a christian so I feel they should be housed, and kept safe by society. But we don't live in a Christian nation.

IF you were a Christian, you would actually go and learn something about homelessness. You obviously have no clue whatsoever what drives it or why it is a difficult problem to solve humanely.

The delusion of those who say they love the Lord. You can solve all problems humanely if you want to. The thing is MAGA uses Jesus to build a cult and worship a false idol and then laugh when people are being cruel.

It's a drop either way. Also this isn't unique to DC; LE in different places are focused on different stats and also different crimes.

No. Actually the article says:

"under investigation for allegedly making changes to crime statistics in his district." The allegation was made by a MAGA Trump supporter.

I do not consider this safe at all.

Addiction is a medical condition. Those folks should be in rehab not prison.

Rehab is prison if you can't leave whenever you want.

Sadly, that's what some addicts require.

We have a housing crisis. We have an expensive healthcare system tied to employment with limited mental health services. We fail to see addiction as a disease and view it as a moral failure.

No, we do not have a "housing crisis." We have vacancies in every city, everywhere. And even if we did not, new housing could be built easily and quickly.

What we have is a lack of will to say, you will not live on public streets, infringing on everyone else's right to safety and to enjoy parks, etc. If you do not have your own home, or a relative to take you in, you will be moved to a facility. End of discussion.

Addiction is not a disease. It does not develop out of nowhere. It is the result of substance use and abuse.

Tell me how much a studio costs in DC, rents plus deposit. Tell me how much a yearly salary is on minimum wage. Tell me how much a baseline health insurance is, especially with Medicaid gone. Tell me how much utilities are for that studio. Tell me how much food is. Then tell me how much taxes they will pay. I dare you. I DARE YOU.

There are millions of people who can't afford to live in the DC area. Find a less expensive area in which to live.

That is false.

In truth, crime has increased or is about the same:
