| Very randomly we have the potential of moving to Stamford CT for a job. I know nothing about Stamford or CT. We have been in the DC/NOVA area for over a decade and before that lived in NY and PA. Anyway any information would be much appreciated! |
| If you'e young without kids, get an apartment downtown near the restaurants and bars. But if you have kids you'll probably want a house in one of the surrounding towns because Stamford schools aren't great. |
| The only thing I can say is traffic is worse there than DC is. That being said, there is housing close to the train station, which will get you into NYC. |
| So job would be in Stamford CT not NYC. What are the nice areas to live in that have good schools and a nice New England neighborhood feel? Housing budget would be probably around $700,000-$900,000. |
| Stamford has nicer areas (closer to the shore) and more urban areas. There are many options in surrounding towns too. School are town not county based in CT so each town offers a totally different experience/curriculum etc. |
New Canaan, Darien, Westport, maybe Greenwich but what you are looking for may be out of your price range there. Westport is my favorite of those. Avoid Norwalk at all costs. |
| Is the cost of living higher tin CT than it is in DC? |
I've done both and Stamford seems to be slightly less as a young professional tham DC was, but not by much. For a house you would actually want it's going to cost about the same. CT has many more older homes that you NOVA tards would call shitshacks. |
I think all of those will be out of OP's price range. Look at Wilton and Weston, as well as Ridgefield. |
For raising a family, it's similar. Though you'll likely get more land in CT than in DC area. I have done both and there are far fewer free/cheap activities for kids in CT so that may make it seem more expensive. |
Those are sort of far up Route 7 if OP wants an easier commute though. The other towns mentioned (with the exception of New Canaan) are on the main New Haven train line - the towns further north will require a train switch in Norwalk. |
+ 1, especially for southern Ridgefield Fabulous family town and I used to do the backroads commute to Stamford in 30-40 mins |
|
Wilton is nice. CT is expensive, be forewarned.

| Hopefully you don't run into the college prepster. |
I am the Stamford poster from above and I have been on the lookout for her, but since I don't go to drive thrus or chain restaurants I'm probably safe. |
