jcrew vanity sizing?

Anonymous
Does anyone notice if Jcrew has been vanity sizing lately....Ann Taylor and Loft always seemed to be the worst offenders but these days Jcrew is too? I am size 0 in ann taylor and thought I was a 4 in jcrew but these days going to size 2.

I recently bought a dress there that was XS and I wear bigger sizes at other places. I also noticed this dress came in XXS and I think even XXXS.

you might be on to something.

J Crew is a big vanity sizing offender. I'm surprised you haven't noticed it sooner! They're not as bad as Ann Taylor and Gap/Old Navy but they're still pretty bad.

Can't you guys just let me enjoy thinking I'm actually a size 6?

You forgot Banana Republic. They're the WORST!

I'm all about the Hillary "what difference does it make?" re: vanity sizing. Just pull the size that fits in whatever store you are in, making the proper adjustments as needed, and pick what flatters you.

Because it is annoying to 1) order a size 6 pencil skirt online only to discover that it is closer to a 10 and 2) when shopping in the store, take multiple sizes of the same item. Either way, it is inefficient.

Sizes just fit larger now, it's a trend that's been occurring since the 50's. Every few years, you have to reevaluate your size vs. industry standard sizing and adjust your default size accordingly. Higher volume retailers (as noted, Gap, J Crew, Ann Taylor, along with all the others like Target and Old Navy) just run larger these days than they did a decade ago.

When ordering online, pay attention to the measurements that are made available to determine sizing and know your own measurements. That's a far more accurate way to shop than using a fairly arbitrary, unstandardized number.

Of course it doesn't "matter" the way something crucial to life, health, or safety "matters." But it's annoying that compAnies play on consumers like that, and that sneaky dishonesty is one of the reasons out country has an obesity epidemic. I'm glad OP brought it up. It's collusion between Sbarro (sp?) and banana republic.

The other thing I noticed is that the same brand in different parts of the country fit differently. I'm a 0 in said store in SC and a solid 4 in the NE. In vintage sizing I'm an 8/10

I call BS

I'm a 4 or 6 at Jcrew and I'm not a particularly small person.
I actually think Banana Republic runs more true to size. I'm consistently a size 8 there.
Ann Taylor and Loft are also cut crazy big.

I'm a 8-10 dress size and regularly wear 4s in jcrew dresses

Omg it's ridiculous. I wear a 00 there and a 2 in high-end brands.

I actually haven't found them to be too bad. They're about average for me.

White House Black Market runs HUGE. I have a hard time shopping there. Their sizing chart also doesn't seem to be particularly accurate.

I'm 5'0" and weigh 111lbs. I have trouble finding stuff that is small enough for me and I'm not that small. I can get by with their smallest petite dresses and tops but I have trouble with pants and shorts. The waists are always too big. I have no idea where truly tiny petite women get their clothes.
