Any last minute tips for a fun week in oc md with kids and relatives?

Anonymous
Our first beach vacation with kids and parents, inlaws and siblings.... A little bit nervous about it!

If you have suggestions or tips on things to do, please throw them this way! Do's and don'ts, things specific to oc md, as well as general beach family vacation ideas.

Thinking of bringing a couple new games that we could play together (suggestions welcome). We have kids under 3. Planning to cook at least a couple family meals.

TIA!!!

Nick's Ribs is family friendly but often there's a line to get in. Try for earlier dinner.

We really like the water park that's at border of Fenwick Island and OC. Family friendly, nice lifeguards, baby pool. Self contained and away from hustle bustle of OC. Also, same place has mini golf and go carts and ice cream in same complex...just thinking about the adults and kids.

This is a great place to stop for ice cream/shaved ice. There is ample seating to enjoy your treats. There is plenty of parking. Little kids would be entertained by watching the go carts. It's nothing like the "big" boardwalk at the south end of the beach, but rather a quiet, clean, family environment. There is a mini golf place as well (Viking Golf). Just across the street is Golf Down Under. It's a larger facility and they play great music that parents enjoy! This place has a partnership this summer with Barn Hill Preserve Educational Animal Programs. They have a few exotic animals that you can see/hold if you like. They have a baby kangaroo! The owner of the facility is always out and about visiting with guests. You can check out their Facebook page. The Crabcake factory on 120th street has amazing lump crabcakes. The place isn't very large and it's very popular, so it's best to go early. We arrived around 5:00 one day this past week and didn't wait at all. However, when we left, all the tables were full and there were many people waiting.

For the kids, you may want to drive into Rehoboth Beach (about 30 minutes) to visit Funland on the boardwalk. They have a section of rides for just the little guys (little boats, firetrucks, etc. that go around in a little circle). This place is very family friendly, and doesn't have quite the sensory overload as the Ocean City boardwalk. Again, arrive early. Parking is not fun.

Just a heads-up...the Ocean City beaches were experiencing quite a bit of erosion this past week. Instead of a nice, level walk out to the water, there was a big drop-off/ledge. In some places it seemed as high as 4 feet. It made it quite difficult to reach the water. Going down was one thing, but getting back up, was a challenge to say the least. Perhaps it wasn't/and isn't everywhere, but this was our experience this past week around 100th street. You can see a photo on a Baltimore meteorologist's facebook page...Justin Berk. Check it out.

Have fun with your family!

Op here. So many awesome suggestions, thank you!!! Starting to get excited for the trip. We will actually be on 26th st, so will have to look on a map to see where everything is. Hopefully the erosion won't be as bad there- thanks for the tip, pp!

Op again here- the water park, is it called Frontier town?

We were there two weeks ago and every time we drove by it was empty. Strange.

No. Frontier Town is something completely different. I would not recommend Frontier Town. Ocean City runs from the inlet (before 1st street) up to about 144th street. Fenwick Island is the next beach town immediately after Ocean City. The little Fenwick mini Boardwalk-like area is on the left side as soon as pass about 144th street (may not be exactly 144th, but something like that). The little area we are talking about comes right after Golf Down Under on the left side of Coastal Highway. On the right side of the street you will see Grab-n-Go Taco (always a crazy long line, Fishers Popcorn (yum!), and Kohr Brothers.

Ahhh. You can tell I'm not familiar with the area at all! Thanks so much, will definitely try to check out that spot during our trip!

Fenwick's water park is called Thunder Lagoon: http://fenwickfun.com/

We've been going to Fenwick since my mom was young and LOVE it! OC wise Jolly Roger can get packed, so go early. The boardwalk is always fun to walk around. I'm assuming you're going tomorrow, if so make sure you cross the bay bridge before 9am, otherwise you're going to hit a lot of traffic. Even if you hit it at 8:30am you'll still hit some after on 404 and 50. Thankfully from here it's a pretty quick drive.

Eat at Fish Tales. Fun pirate ship for kids to play in.

Must get Kohr Bros. frozen custard multiple times. Choco./peanutbutter is the best.

Also, if there are kids under 10, you definitely want to got to North Side park (as previously mentioned). If just a playground, but a very nice one and a cute little stream (see if you can find the jellyfish by the bridge).

There is a pirate cruise for kids if they might be into that. It's just over the border in Bethany, I think.
