Beauty and Fashion
I am thinking about ordering a few items from J Jill, but haven't purchased from the store before. If you shop there, can you tell me if the sizes run true to size - or tend to run small/large? I am particularly looking at the women's line. Thanks!
They run large. I am a size eight and wear a Small, or X-Small in the tops.
Not for me, but I'm also rather tall with a long torso. In fact, I thought their stuff was more for "cute and petite" women (which I'm not) - at least the pants and tops I tried on. |
I use to get sucked in by their catalogs but always returned things because they never fit right (big and boxy). I would suggest going to the store in pentagon city or tysons to try things on to see if their fit works for you.
They run big.
I agree with 14:35, I think all of their tops are cut boxy. If you are carrying some extra weight and are an apple bodytype, they might work for you. Otherwise, there are more flattering things out there.
Their stuff tends to de-emphasize the waist area, if you know what I mean. Lots of loose tops and non-fitted clothes.
It's for the waistless matronly set. So unless you want to look about 70, steer clear. I say this from experience shopping there.

Agree with the PPs regarding the boxy fit.
Their clothes were actually useful during the first 6 months of my pregnancy. The quality is disappointing. |
Well thank goodness someone finally said it. I think their clothes makes anyone wearing them dowdy and/or fat. Steer clear.
I was just there today and completely agree with the above posts. In my desperate attempts to find something fresh and stylish, I walked in to so many stores today. I'm not looking for anything form fitting, but all of the tops I tried on from J Jill look like maternity tops. I'm normally a 12-14, and J Jill's size mediums were way too baggy for me to wear.

The catalog is deceiving because most of the models are youngish and thin. The clothes look super-cute and modern in the catalog, but once you try them on you realize they are designed for the "over 50 and on the heavy side" group. My mom wears stuff from there and it looks great on her, but she's also apple-shaped and almost 70.

J Jill, Chicos, Coldwater Creek-- stay away! No need to look dumpy. Plenty of other nice options out there.
Where? I've been through so many stores and can't find ANY tops that fit me A large will fit my shoulders/bust but not so flattering over my stomach/hips. An extra large is too big on my shoulders/bust..but more flattering for my stomach. I need to find something, anything, but am having no luck...and I've really been looking. Help!

Fair enough. These stores may be good options depending on your size . It sounds like they are pretty good options for the previous poster.
