Private & Independent Schools
| Has anyone received acceptance via the Waitlist yet? |
| My child was waitlisted at first choice school last year. I called AD to check and learned that they were overenrolled for DC's grade, so I knew waitlist movement was not going to happen. Perhaps you can ask point blank if they are overenrolled? (As for our school fate: child loves second choice school! Me, too!) |
| I also heard that GDS (like most privates this year) chose to overenroll and thus do not expect the waitlist to move at all. Sorry. If you're really stuck, I'd call the admissions director and see what they think. |
| OP here -- Thank you for the responses. I was hoping to ascertain whether there was any indication of Waitlist movement from GDS -- at least I could gauge a few days from that point to "close the chapter" and move forward. Thanks again. |
Have you been in contact with the AD since you were first notified that your DC was on waitlist? If so, then you already may have a rapport going. If not, then I would call, tell them that this is your first choice (if it is), and ask them about the prospects. If you have to commit to another independent, then you'll have to weigh the odds. If the back-up is public school, then you'll have to make a decision about whether you want DC to ride it out through summer and see if there are any changes. |
| I'm not sure they choose to over enroll, since it makes for bigger class sizes. Applying recent yields is not a perfect predictive science. As I understand it, schools that over enroll will adjust at the next entry year, if needed (i.e., if students haven't left). |
| I was 11:14 - I was told by an AD at a different school that almost everyone chose to over-enroll this year as a strategy to get the class they wanted in a tenuous economy. Clearly, it is a risk on their part that they will get too many accepts, but apparently they were willing to risk it this year. |

Ah, I sped-read. Sorry 11:14.

Yikes! I wasn't aware of the over-enrolling factor.
I believe contracts were due April 1 for GDS. Hopefully they will determine whether they will revert to the Waitlist this week. |
| April 1 was last week. Has anyone heard? Time to make other plans? |
| 15:50. Call. Personally, I'd move on. We were waitlisted at first choice last year (not GDS) and it was a huge relief to learn they'd overenrolled. At that point we started concentrating on our viable option - which was our second choice. Good luck. |
| Bump. |
| Is it possible that there has been ZERO movement on any waitlist? Has anyone heard of anyone getting off a waitlist recently???? |
| Yes, that is possible. In this climate, it might be probable. Why not call and see if they are fully enrolled or over enrolled. Also, confirm when contracts "lock in." Some families drop out before contracts lock in. They lose their deposit but are no liable for the full year's tuition. Again, call. I've been through this waitlist purgatory and we were never offered a slot, the class was over enrolled. Also, if the class is currently over enrolled, chances are there will be no movement off the waitlist, if a family or two drops out and loses their deposits, the class size will be down to the school's ideal. As for us, things worked out ... Good luck. |
I have heard, second and third hand mind you, of waitlist movement (i.e., spots offered) at Sheridan, Beauvoir, Sidwell, and St. Patrick's |
