Career and Life Coaches

I've been contemplating becoming a coach. Would love to hear from others how best to become one, whether certification is needed, and which programs are good.

Also how many hours do you work and how much do you make annually? I'm currently at 6 figures doing something completely unrelated and don't want to change my lifestyle, but don't want to keep doing what I'm doing.

Would love to hear your experience.

I don't really understand the life coach thing. Could someone explain what that is?

Adults accustomed to helicopter parents hire someone to helicopter and prod them.

What bitterness. Career coaching is like marriage counseling. It's great for getting perspective.

I don't get it. What are you making fun of him for? I think you need to be more explicit.

Jayson Blair was fired from the Times for repeated incidents of fabrication and plagiarism.

Except that with marriage counseling, that's typically done by someone with at least a master's degree, if not a doctoral degree.

If you want perspective, go to psychotherapy, with someone qualified to do that. Life coaches are not.

Life coaches have certifications, like physical trainers. Just because someone doesn't have formal education in terms of a degree doesn't mean they are automatically bad at their job. Obviously go to a GOOD life coach.

Life and career coaches are a lot like personal trainers- they provide perspective, ideas and support in making changes or improvements to certain areas.
OP, sorry you've got such derision here. Certifications are helpful ( I think ICF is one group that does them) though not necessarily required. Lots of resources and info on the web about coaching. Good luck!
