I remember reading articles about former NPR (I think) and other local journalists who've written books recently... does anyone remember what I think I'm remembering. Generally looking for something contemporary, mysteries in particular to read.
They aren't necessarily "recent" but Laura Lippman writes a mystery series set in Baltimore. George Pelecanos writes about DC.
Check out Susan Coll -- she writes funny stuff about the DC suburbs -- Beach Week and Up the Pike.
David Baldacci, of course!!
I read a novel by Robert Bausch that was pretty good. Set in Fairfax.
I really enjoyed Elliot Holt's "You Are One of Them".
Dupont Circle. Lovely novel. A local writer, but can't remember the name.
Washing the Dead by Michelle Braffman. Although it takes place in an Ortodox Jewish Community, the theme of mothers and daughters is universal.
George Pelecanos. He has written a ton of novels set in DC, many in Petworth. He has also written for "The Wire" and "Treme".
Isn't brad meltzer local? I've read a couple of those. Also Seabiscuit and the book about Louis Zamperini were written by a local author. Madeleine Albrights autobiography is good.
I think Brad Parks is a local author in VA. He writes mysteries.
Anne Tyler - Baltimore writer, lots of novels based in the area.
+1 Pelecanos is great. Really captures the local DC, versus the federal DC. |
