Would you let teen DD get her nose pierced?

Anonymous
DD wants to.

Personally, i think a small stud in the nose is unobtrusive and can be very pretty. I'm surprised at how open I am to the idea. I can't stand tattoos and things like eyebrow piercings, but this seems harmless to me.

I'm wondering how others feel. (I think I can guess ...)

Nope not until she's 18.

Is she otherwise responsible? If so, I probably would let her.
Anonymous
Yes. I figure this is the sort of thing worth compromising on. I'd make the "yes" contingent on her demonstrating that she's responsible enough to care for it without infection, though.
Anonymous
I probably would at 16/HS jr but not at 13.

No. Belly button - yes. Nose will have to wait until you are out of my house.

No. I had mine pierced and the spot will never go away. 20+ years ago I made the decision I still live with on my face forever.

This. My sister got one at 14 and hasn't had it in in over a decade and the hole is still visible. I got my belly button done the same summer and while equally as trashy of a look it left a much more discrete scar since its not on my face. I have kids and don't battle over "independent choices" but I'd protect the face when I can!

Yuck, no.

No, of course, I would not allow my minor daughter to put a hole in her nose.
Anonymous
No. Do any of the women at the country club have nose rings? Or filled in nose ring holes? No. Does RBG have a nose ring? No.

Its a phase that will pass. No.

Mine just DIYed it.

Great PJ O'Rourke quote in The Week:
"The weirder you're going to behave, the more normal you should look. It works in reverse, too. When I see a kid with three or four rings in his nose, I know there is absolutely nothing extraordinary about that person."

I got my nose pierced the day I turned 18. I had wanted it for ages and my parents wouldn't let me.

They let me get my belly button pierced when I was 16, though. I personally don't see why letting her pierce her belly button is any different. Especially if she does it when she turns 18 anyway.

FWIW, I had multiple piercings in my late teens/early 20s, and the only one I still have (I'm 32 now) is a small stud in my nostril. I take it out for work and it just looks like a freckle.
