| Looking for another side trip for our next stay in London with kids. Already done English countryside and France. I'm thinking Amsterdam or Edinburgh. What do you think? |
| What time of year? How old are kids? |
Summer. Teen, elementary age, and toddler. |
| Amsterdam. So much to do, and the city is very compact. I found Edinburgh relatively dull. |
What about the Highlands? |
I would agree. Ann Frank house is worth a visit for the older kids as well. |
| Highlands require long drives |
Buy tickets online as soon as you know your dates. Just leaving Amsterdam now and skipped the visit bc online tickets were sold out and the lines were enormous. |
| Amterdam will be a city break and the highlands rugged. Sort of depends on what youre going for. Edinburgh's got a bit of both and you could just get the train from London. Amsterdam means you'll have to fly which is something I personally would avoid. |

Scotland is good if your kids are into Harry Potter stuff. Locations from the movie and books are everywhere. JK Rowling wrote many of the books in Scotland.

| Amsterdam ....... no brainer. |
You could take a train, takes about 12 hours. Kind of a cool trip. |
| There's no direct train from London to Amsterdam. Either you take the Eurostar to Brussels and then another train onto Amsterdam or you take a ferry across the Channel and do trains on either side. |
it takes about 5 hours by train, not 12 hours! |
