Holland or Scotland?

Looking for another side trip for our next stay in London with kids. Already done English countryside and France. I'm thinking Amsterdam or Edinburgh. What do you think?

What time of year? How old are kids?

Summer. Teen, elementary age, and toddler.

Amsterdam. So much to do, and the city is very compact. I found Edinburgh relatively dull.

I would agree. Ann Frank house is worth a visit for the older kids as well.

Buy tickets online as soon as you know your dates. Just leaving Amsterdam now and skipped the visit bc online tickets were sold out and the lines were enormous.

Amterdam will be a city break and the highlands rugged. Sort of depends on what youre going for. Edinburgh's got a bit of both and you could just get the train from London. Amsterdam means you'll have to fly which is something I personally would avoid.

Scotland is good if your kids are into Harry Potter stuff. Locations from the movie and books are everywhere. JK Rowling wrote many of the books in Scotland.

You could take a train, takes about 12 hours. Kind of a cool trip.

There's no direct train from London to Amsterdam. Either you take the Eurostar to Brussels and then another train onto Amsterdam or you take a ferry across the Channel and do trains on either side.
