Holland or Scotland?

Fly. Air time is less than an hour. Fares are reasonable.

Edinburgh is beautiful. Summer there is amazing and you can take day trips to Inverness, the highlands, even Glasgow. Love love love it. Would move there if I could.

Isn't there the Chunnel? So you could take trains all the way.

You have to change trains in Brussels, so it is not direct like the PP said.

You could take a train, takes about 12 hours. Kind of a cool trip.

it takes about 5 hours by train, not 12 hours!

oops, yes. I checked Google maps but when I did that it was 9.00 pm in Europe so it was a bad connection.

Is there a chance you would go to Europe at some point in the spring? If so, I would do Scotland now and hit Amsterdam in the spring so you can see the tulips.

We just did Scotland and Edinburgh is a bit small feeling. Inverness is cute, but you don't need much time there either. Glasglow might be a better choice. What about the Lake District?

Edinburgh is easily reached by train.

Amsterdam and Edinburgh are both worth a visit--but I would choose Edinburgh.

I have travelled extensively in many parts of the world. I have to admit that I am more of an "atmosphere" person than a museum person. There are three cities I have been to that "just being" there is special to me. These three are: Hong Kong, Venice, and Edinburgh. I know most would say Paris, but I love the other three.

I also enjoyed many other parts of Scotland. I don't know if a week in Edinburgh would be interesting to kids, but I vote for Edinburgh.

+1

Amsterdam is high on the destination list of where I want to take DD, but only in the spring. It's a shame to miss the tulips.
